sukhe_bator: your stuff is really nice, keep bashing on with it! even if you just finish enough to play DBA type games until you get more done up.
jimbibbly: if you weren't such a nice fellow I'd have to hate you. I may hate you anyway, just out of envy.  lol

I've played Peter Pig's Battles in the Age of War a few years back. Good game solid design and the pregame stuff gives you some nice scenario building each game instead of the usual equal points line up and knock down. His minis are nice too if you want 15mm.

I tried really hard to talk my gang into 15mm Samurai but got no biters.

So who also makes Japanese civilians aside from the Perry brothers in 28?

Museum Miniatures and I think Kingsford although I'll be doing a fair few before the end of the year  :)

You can pick up the odd one or two from various manufacturers but nothing really comprehensive. For the time being the Perrys are your best bet.

I've picked up some Kensei stuff and have more coming from their indigogo, but not sure how to paint it, can anyone recommend any books with colourschemes and stuff like patterns/mons?
Have been looking at the stuff from Osprey but there's so much choice I'm not sure what would be good.

TBH not really concerned with it being historically accurate, not sure how historically accurate the Kensei stuff is to begin with and even if it is what period it is supposed to be, but I don't want to just slap some random colours on them either

I've just received photos of the painted Buntai leader figures from the brilliant Paul Cubbin.

Really nice.

North Star staff member Mr Kevin Dallimore has painted up our Bushi Buntai for the official 'Ronin' box set.

I've only just stumbled across the Ronin topic, and I think that's gonna sort me well out for skirmishes. :)  Might as well go for one of the WG set for mass battles, since I like them well enough.
But the latter prefer larger forces, barring house rules; so what about something in-between, mid-range battles with smaller - and smaller numbers of - units, while I build the numbers up? Are there any preferences? I have Dux Bellorum already: easily adapted, or unsuitable? What about Peter Pig's Battles in the Age of War?

I have to say that the new figures from Northstar look fantastic.  It is a period that I have always wanted to get into but hadn't found a set of rules that seemed to fit the period. Ronin might be just what I need.  I have one question that someone in the know might be able to answer.

From what I have read the Buntai (band?) can vary in size but the figures are marketed in groups of 8-10.  If you wanted to increase the size of your band by one or two figures then buying an additional band is an expensive way of doing that.  Are there plans for selling single figures separately or are the figures comparable with any other ranges in which we might mix'n'match?

Thanks for your help.

I put the brakes on a samurai project a few years ago but the Ronin stuff and Mr Bibbly's treasures have got me pondering it again. I had always intended getting Perry figures but the North star figures look great to paint up. I'd also be interested to hear if they will be available outside of the boxed sets?

Wasn't aware of the painter till here. He does do some nice work indeed.
