COMIC (/adventure report): Lords of Timlin issue #1
« on: April 05, 2013, 03:56:51 PM »
Hi all! It's been a while since I posted so I'll introduce our game again. We play with friends in a home-brew world that my husband Teshub GMs. My husband and I have been gaming and painting and modeling together for more than 20 years now. It's how we met. :-*

This 3 part comic details an awesome night of gaming/roleplaying that was too much fun to fit into 1 issue. ("Battle of Alnar" was my first attempt with this game report style if you'd like a bit of backstory) :

I hope you all enjoy the evolution of my comics.

Happy Fantasies,
Jev

Great story and great comic style!

I truly enjoyed reading your adventures.

Thanks for sharing.
I know you're too old to play with toy soldiers. So give them to me... NOW!

Thanks for the kind words! I'm glad you enjoyed the story. It's a fun challenge to present the miniatures, models, adventure, and generally great time that our games can be.

That's amazing. The comic actually works out despite the fighting poses of the models engaged in a conversation. Really good.

Thank you! I use a program called Manga Studio 4 EX. I see now they have version 5 http://manga.smithmicro.com/mangastudio5/. I used the cheaper version, Manga Studio 4 Debut on my first battle rep/comic "Battle of Alnar" http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=31911.msg377540#msg377540. I haven't used version 5 at all, but either version of 4 could be used to do what I did.

More tech stuff: I shoot with a Canon PowerShot SX20is and pair it with the Canon Speedlite 580exII flash (and a tripod!) to get the hi-res photos I can use for the comic. I have seen some neat photos pulled off by players with their phone cameras too!

Doomhippie- love your observation. That comes from lots of time spent looking at little lead guys! To paraphrase a writers' cliche, the minis start to develop personalities once they are on the tabletop in a scene. As I take the pictures, the figures often inspire the panels as I try to capture what's laid out before us on the board.

Really enjoyable and in a great format. Do you have a blog on the go that puts everything together so we can read it all in one place without having to search through all the LA posts to find the links etc.?

Thanks again all!

Little Odo: the short answer to your question when you asked it 4 days ago was, "No, I don't have a blog"

Today: Thank you for being the straw that finally broke this stubborn camel's back. I've now started bringing our world online. Soon we'll have detailed racial and cultural descriptions (with pix of course), timeline, and some histories:

Impressive! :o

A cheaper alternative to Manga Studio could be this: http://plasq.com/ It doesnīt have all the extensive features, but it is very easy to use and if you donīt draw yourself but use fotos instead, it might be more than sufficent.

When this idea was first presented to me it seemed impossible to tell one of our sword and sorcery RPG stories with miniatures. Considering the limited options single pose figures allow for who could blame me?  You definitely pulled it off here! This was one of our finest nights of RP ever and the best is yet to be seen, stay tuned...
