Mark IV tank 'Hanni'
« on: 15 April 2008, 10:43:33 PM »
Hi all,

I need a decent british Mark IV tank, to represent the one captured by the Germans and renamed 'Hanni' to be used in Berlin by the Freikorps to supress the Spartakist 'uprising'.

Does anybody know if the 'Hanni' was a female or a hybrid?
What manufacturer is the best (quality/price/detail/size)?

Brigade Games seems to be the most complete range,

Great Wars is a male, does Old glory make one? Didn't Renegade do one at some point? Are these all the same scale?
If you don't believe in lead, you're already dead.

Brigade sells the Mk IV that used to be sold by Renegade (the Tony Ashcroft designed model).  When ordering, you can specify which sponsons you want so you can get a male, a female or a hermaphrodite.  This model is 1/56 scale.

The Old Glory version is a little smaller - not sure how much, I haven't seen one in the flesh, as it were.

GWM's is supposed to be very nice, but again, I haven't seen it either (don't need to order one, since I have already have a bunch of Tony Ashcroft's!).  GWM have a female version (at least there is one listed on their website, just no photo provided).

Foundry also produces a Mk IV tank.

Hanni sounds like a girl's name in German. Is that right?

In my limited experience of Beutepanzers they gave the male ones men's names and the female ones Women's names.

I have the GWM female Mark IV, I'll go see if I can find a pic of it for you.

I believe this is Hanni (I found it on a site selling paper model downloads):

So she was a girl.

This site says Hanni was indeed a female:

(Realised you can't tell from the pic I posted, as the 6pdr would be out of sight on the other side were it an Hermaphrodite.)

That's odd then, Helen's tank is definitely not a female.

We have a contradiction here. I wonder who is correct? That's obviously not the original paint-job of that tank. I wonder if it is indeed the original tank that bore the name?

Helen, that tank is in the Kubinka museum, yes?

It's a Mark V, so can't be the real Hanni. It is thought the Germans didn't capture any Mark Vs. That is probably a tank from the RCW that someone has wrongly painted the German markings on, it would seem.

Check out the caption to the pics:

By the way, here's a picture of my Great War Miniatures female, Plum Duff to help you in your choice of what to get:

Dunno why but the Humbrol Metalcote on the tracks and guns never comes out in photos. It just looks black. To the naked eye this tank looks very different. I'm puzzled why I can never take photos that do this model justice. The rust seems much more prominent in a photo, too. In real life you hardly see it. Odd, that.

Compared with the minis in the foreground this one seems a bit larger than the Tony Ashcroft Model, or is it just the perspective?

I have no experience of the Tony Ashcroft model I'm afraid, so I couldn't really compare. I'll take a side-on shot later when I've got a minute, to try and give a better tank/figure comparison.
