Ichabod Crane
« on: April 11, 2013, 03:56:55 PM »
Just seen the new "ichabod" crane from Fenris games. It wasn't long ago that most laser-beamed kits were either pretty boxy, or just looked very flat. Ian has started doing them with added "bits" which really bring them to life. I've put this here because it looks very WW2 to me, but like any half-decent scenic works across a good few periods and genres. It's still available as a pre-order until Salute 2013 for £25, it'll be £35 after...  :o

Dam that is nice - I've always wanted to do pulp dock scene, pity I have no spare cash at the moment.

Wow!! Might just have to work one into my Salute 14 game. Although that is sci fi I'm sure a tweak or two and it wil work. Really really very good.

It would be great for WWII games. I wonder if Ian could do a Victorian dock crane. I might have to sell something and buy one!

That is pretty nice. I'll have a proper look at Salute, I think.

Very nice!

When I saw the photo, I could have sworn it was the Dapol (ex-Airfix version) plastic kit which is a rather nice model, in and of itself. Presumably this is for 28mm?  If you can live with the Dapol version being closer to 20mm, it's a steal at £ 7.50.

I must admit I thought the same. Incidentally the Dapol kit and the railway crane are very useful donor kits if you want a small crane as the booms are perfect.

I ordered a couple of these as soon as I saw them as well as some nodding donkeys which I have tried unsuccessfully to scratch build in the past. I only went to their website to preorder some sheets of shingles for Salute.

These should be useful for anything from the mid 19th century or so including steampunk games like Warmachine right though until the modern day, certainly the 1970s and would not look out of place in a post-apocalyptic game either.

I wonder how easily you could add little wheels to the bottom of their feet so they could be rail mounted like many harbour cranes? You could probably take the crane bit off the tower and mount it on a flatbed wagon if you had one that was suitable though then you really need to worry about outriggers as well.

It is much cheaper than any of the 1/50th scale diecast cranes I have looked it but they tend to be for serious collectors and as they are generally of modern machines they are less useful as terrain as well.
