More inspired by ramblings...

Okay, Thunderchicken has it right, the apocalypse occurs when the Martians invade and stay for months instead of weeks.

So UK, France, and what would be Germany,  are devastated to the point where they have to try and build their country from the ruins and have little resources to send out into the Americas, Asia, Africa, and Oceania. Would Austria-Hungary have been targeted?

The 1840 harvest failures are even worse than historically.

With the widespread destruction the 1840-1860 emigration to the USA from many countries is stillborn and the revolutionaries of the 1840's become the leaders of the populist movements post invasion.

Does the Iberian Peninsula focus on it's northern borders?  What does Russian do?  Austria-Hungary - does it implode?  Do the Turks become resurgent instead of starting down the road to the Sick Man of Europe status?  What the heck happens with Italy?  Scandinavia?

I have just started thinking about this alternate history and wanted some feedback from others?  Where could history go with is timeline post invasion?

Gracias,

Glenn
