Bobbies?
« on: April 15, 2013, 10:06:16 AM »
How does the Blue Moon "A Jack the Ripper Scenario" bobbies match up to the West Wind "London" set?

While I wait for my IHMS stuff I want to build up more of H Division, so I already really want the EOTD sets. Is there any others out there in 25/28mm? I also picked up the Reaper one, which is pretty meh to me.

Thanks!

Foundry has 6 packs of them here: http://wargamesfoundry.com/historical_ranges/single_packs/victoriana/victoriana/?sector_id=&page=all

Here's one of the packs:

Bah - I cant find a way to link to the big pics but you get the idea ..
"One of My Men Became Restless" focuses on 15mm Horse & Musket periods and 25mm Horse & Musket, Fantasy, Horror and Victorian everything! Occasionally there'll be stuff of related interest but it's mostly a painters blog.  See it all here: http://flashman14.blogspot.com/

I just picked up the 'Penny Farthing' variants...much nicer in the lead than the painted ones seem to suggest.

The Artizan ones are from the pulp era
I think West Winds are best but they all look good together.
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it anymore and what is it seems weird and scary.

Thanks for all the replies guys! Foundry, I keep forgetting about those espically the penny farthing guys. A local hobby shop had the Artizan set, I believe it was the middle one pictured and I thought about picking it up but put it back after seeing the Pulp part. BUT after reading another thread on here, I might. I know the Enfield is little to modern then what I'm going for, but the pistol guys should work?

Mors, I'd love to see some pictures when you get around to it!

Back to drawing up my plans for a Black Mariah......

Depends how much of a stickler for detail you are  ;)
I don't mind the rifles, the magazines aren't that noticable so I'd have no problem with them. The breast pockets on the jackets however throw them straight out of period for me. I took a look at some the other day and it looks like they'd be pretty easy to scrape/file off, which would fit them in fine.
So many projects..... so little time.......

Maybe we should have a "Needs More Bobbies" child board.

Personally I would like to see some Bow Street Runners.

Way too early for my games. Does anyone even do figures to go with them? You're essentially looking at Napoleonic period civvies and criminals.

I think a lot of the West Wind Sleepy Hollow figures and some of the Blue Moon sets would do. Foundry has some stuff as well I think. I read the Blackstone books as a little'un and they've always intrigued me.

Ah yes, I hadn't thought about those figures, probably a few useful ones in there.

Yes they exist!
Brigade games has a couple of them:

An No they are not so early. They can be painted to stand as bank security personnel (in orange jacket, like the ones in the great train robbery film!)

Just for info/fun...

At the Siege of Sidney Street (London, 1911), other than Webley Bulldog revolvers and double barrelled shotguns, the only weapon the Metropolitan Police had were Morris Tube conversions (i.e., .22 inch) of the Martini Henry rifle.

Which is why when they came up against unprecedented armament for criminals/revolutionaries twenty or so guards volunteers were required to assist.

I have a bunch of the foundry ones. A bit basic but they are nice clean sculpts, easy to paint and they look good.
I got a pack of regular bobbies and the pack of sergeants (I think). Either way a good basis for a Victorian force.
Below is a link to my blog. It's the place where I write uninteresting things about little toy soldiers. I do this because I refuse to grow up and behave like an adult.
