Looking for Fantastic looking Orcs
« on: April 15, 2013, 12:35:15 PM »
Hi all,

I am looking for some Orc figures for a Skirmish game.  I am trying to avoid the goofy comic style of Games Workshop figures if possible.

Ideally i want them to look mean, vicious and vindictive.

I am chasing some either Armed with spears or in poses that I can easily be converted to have spears.

I dont want them to be completely HUGE, as these will represent normal Orcs.  I have something in mind for their Bigger Brothers (I was thinking GameZone for them)

and for the Ogre was looking at Hasslefree

For the Regular Orcs I am at a loss.

Any ideas?

the Reaper Orcs by Mr Manor are quite nice, though might be a bit too big: http://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/orc%20manor
they also have some sculpted by Bob Olley: http://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/orc%20olley , some of them available as bones/ cheapo placcy variant

You might hate me for this but Fictive Miniatures released a set of lovely Paul Muller orcs:

All painted by Myrmidon studio, more pictures if you click the links:
http://myrmidonstudio.blogspot.nl/2009/05/fictive-miniatures-orcs.html
http://myrmidonstudio.blogspot.nl/2009/08/fictive-miniatures-orc-lord-display.html

And now the bad news: the site of Fictive Miniatures no longer works and I have no idea what happened to the models, but I think they're OOP at the moment.

Edit: have you considered LOTR Orcs from GW?

What about the old Nick Lund Grenadiers?

Here are some in chainmail:

Larger version on my blog here:

We've modded the weapons into spears on some different Grenadier orcs:

Mirliton still carries these.

Some nice minis in here. I'll have to keep my eye on this thread. I like those Muller orcs.

Wargames Factory orcs are inexpensive... sadly, arming them with spears would be something of a task. I've actually come to like them, they're distinct from everyone else's and have that old school Tolkien vibe everyone else seems to miss.

a mixture of quick parts, sarcastic humour, reserve, and caprice.

Mantic's Orcs are decent and quite inexpensive. They have enclosed-head helmets which look pretty cool too. Here are a couple I painted up for skirmish gaming. They're also human-sized, which is nice if you have something in mind for bigger villains.

They're quite different ain't they? I think I like them; too bad that everything I've read about WF is quite damning criticism.

I like the older Ral Partha orcs (but then I like the even older - in appearance and probably in fact - Der Kriegspieler ones.)

Try and see past the paint jobs...  someone paints as bad as I do... well, not as bad...

I like the appearance of the figures but I have too many Orcs/goblins from the 1970's to start a new style now.

Gracias,

Glenn

I like these too- I have never seen these figures before but I think they do have a JRRT look to them. I think they could be mixed with GW LotR  orcs for more variety, they could also be a tribe of orcs from the east of mordor, as I think they have an Easterling influence to them.

Also WG Factory £16.50 for 24
GW/LotR £36 for 24

Sounds even better!
Theres more 28mm Superhero Madness at my blog, http://fourcoloursupers.blogspot.com/
