Duel at Dawn! A battle report in ComicVision

Look, I know Comic Life might be the new cliche, but it is a neat program. I don't care if Photoshop can do everything it can, this just does it quick and dirty. I loves me some Comic Life.

Anyway, I went over to Illumisar's house last night and we played three quick games of Wings of War. And so begins our tale:

With only two planes, you can play on a 2' x 2' (60 cm squared) board. This particular ground cloth is my quick test field for mocking up my Rattrap stuff.

Also with only two players, the first couple of turns consist of: 1. Close. 2. Try to guess whether the other guy will turn left or right.

And, uh, in a fit of terrible luck, Illumisar pulled a Sickly and blew up on the first hit.  :(  As the noble von Parkburg, I couldn't help but feel strangely unsatisfied by this flukey victory.

A rematch was immediately called for...

Nice report. The more I see of this game the more tempted I am to get it.

It's also nice to see the boy Sickly has now become immortal, and coined a phrase all of his very own.

Plynkes must be so proud of him.

Nice write up Pete!

Oddly, each of the three matches we played ended by virtue of the insta-pilot-kill/fueltank-kablooie card. There was a lot of flaming wreckage raining down over the trenches of Ypres last evening to be sure.

My wife mentioned this morning that she chuckled every time she heard one of us shout "Immelman!" with childlike glee in our voices.

WoW is a great little game, one we're likely to be playing often.

Yeah, I may buy into this game at Spring Fever. It looks like something my son and I would have fun with.

Of course you can remove the insta-kill cards from the decks for those that find it too flukey. I like them myself, but oddly they have yet to be drawn in the few games I have played. I always end up in marathon games where every 0 and 1 point card in the deck must be drawn before anyone goes down in flames.

Great report Pete. I may have to look into that comic program.

Aaron is quite correct. It even says in the rules somewhere to take them out if you want to reduce the element of chance. I also like them, because they always seem to happen to someone else. But they can easily lead to some rather truncated games upon occasion.

Ummm, nope. Not tired of Comic Life reports yet. Won't hesitate to point out when I am, though. Everyone can rest assured of that.

We played a quirky game the other week by removing randoly the number of cards from the manouvre deck unitl you only have the same number at the points of damage you can take...now it makes for a fun and frustrating game when you can only turn right or dont have the cards for your immlemann I can tell you.

Saying that I had 5 kills to my name by the end of the night

We had a similar run in our club with a series of 3 3vs. 3 games, when in each game the germans got both instant kill cards early in the game. Next time we played with the same machines it took nearly an hour before the first plane went down. But that's the fun of the game!

Does anyone find it oddly suiting that Pete’s three posts for this WWI game are numbered 1916 - 1917 - 1918?

Synchronicity is an old little thing . . .

Now that is a brutal house rule. I love it.

Don't worry. Even though all three games ended with the KABLOOEY card, there was plenty of lead shot out in Game 2.

I'm not going to make a new thread for the second game. This one is much better! It's also approved by the Comics Code, so no naughty bits or depictions of immorality in a positive light.
