Good 13th Century HRE/German Miniatures?
« on: April 17, 2013, 09:14:29 PM »
Hey,

Im looking for what would be the best miniatures to make a small army to re-create a 1200's Holy roman empire feudal skirmish's,

I've been trying to move to 20mm the last while so anything in that scale would be helpful, but im open to 28's as well,

Historical accuracy is a must, whats the point in doing historical's otherwise?

I've found a few nice sets on the new fireforge miniatures but the are very overpriced, also what is the problem with old glory? they have some nice miniatures in their mongols in europe range and good price/mini ratio, but i dont seem to see them used very often,

Also if anyone could tell me what works with what as well scale wise, for example i know gripping beast has been a victim(or have they?) of scale creep making most of their mini's unusual able with other mini's

Any help would be appreciated,

Cheers!

You could try Gripping Beast. I like their figures and the stuff from the period you're after is reasonably sized. They are also quite compatible with Curteys Feudal 13th Century stuff which is very nice, so give them a look too. As to Old Glory they are VERY hit and miss, some ranges are fantastic, others a bit pants, with both there sculpt quality and scale being all over the place. They tend to be pretty much 25mm though so almost a head smaller then most other ranges making them quite incompatible, however if you used those and those alone you should be ok.

Leave it out, to each their own.  ;)

The Crusader Miniatures range is quality.

Barony Miniatures are inexpensive old school figures sculpted by Max Carr, who did the old Heritage Dungeon Dwellers, and Knights and Magic figures.  He sells a knight, mounted and dismounted for $5.  The figures have separate head and weapon options.
