Need more suggestions

I want to make stone walls in the same style as the ones in my home state of Kentucky. They are dry laid (meaning no mortar) and have a row of vertical rocks along the top called a soldier course. any suggestions on how to go about this?

I'd use pink/blue foam. A rough stone texture is easy to scribe while watching TV.

I've been meaning to make similar (if coarser) walls out smashed plaster bits. There was a thread on here maybe a year or more ago that had that and a beehive hut made the same way. Can't seem to find the thread though!

What I recall is you get a large baking pan and fill it with a thin layer of plaster, then once the plaster sets, you smash it to bits, and roll the bits in a big to take the edge off a bit (to your preference), then stack the bits in a wall, or whatever other shape, base 'em and paint!

Use a hobby knife for the rough stone shapes into the foam.  Ball point marker drawn into the score marks to add the spaces.  Use the hobby knife again to "chip the edges".  Force some of the "chipped stone" back into the wall.  This will give you a distressed rock look.

Snitcythedog has it, though for irregular stone I usually just score with a sharp number 2 pencil.

I still go to this site in awe.  His method for scribing bricks on foamcore is what you are looking for.
