The Ram has Touched the Wall - Late Republican Romans
« on: April 19, 2013, 07:50:42 PM »
Being a Roman nut, a big fan of the Late Republican era and even more so since ROME, it was with great joy that I received news about plastic sets by Warlord Games covering this period. Others have beat me on this, but if you're interested here's my take on this new set: blog article.
In the process some miniatures got a lick of paint, mainly in order to see if that levels any or most difference to other ranges already around (namely my beloved Copplestone sculpts). So, here are some photos of the painted examples: left to right these are Warlord plastic, Warlord EIR, a Foundry centurion and, again, a plastic Republican legionary.

For the shield I made use of LBM decals – apart from the centurion who got a custom design.

If that's a bit too gritty for your taste, fear not! We're already planning ahead for a weird Ancients project which calls for a fair bit of OTT.

No idea yet when I get round to it. But we all have plans. In the meantime, thanks for watching! :smt006

Cheers, guys! :)
I have many concerns about the paintjobs (in particular when looking at these closeups, oh my…), hence your kind support is much appreciated.
Svenn, actually, the centurion and his optio are metals. ;) And after painting these Warlord figs up, the future's not all plastic for me…

Very nice Doc.  When you put brush to Roman it always makes for some inspiring work.  I also think I will stick with my foundry metals.  I don't really like the look of the plastics.

WoW
I draw my hat!
for the PJ anway, but especially for the very commanding departure from the "traditional" red toy soldier uniform approach. Very convincing! Had the designers of "Rome" opted for something more authentic, something like Your concept should have been the choice.
Kudos!
