Dux Bellorum at Salute
« on: April 21, 2013, 09:40:21 AM »
A bunch of us put on two games of Osprey's Arthurian rules 'Dux Bellorum' at Salute yesterday. We had a standard 32pt rulebook scenario using Arthur vs the Saxons and a double size game set in the late 4th century pitting the Late Roman British Northern border garrison against an unholy alliance of Picts and Scots...

We won 'best painting' which was unexpected and is a huge honour at such a prestigious show!  :D

A couple of taster pics below and many more on my blog...

If it played even half as well as it looks, it must have been great fun!

Thanks for sharing

Many thanks for all the kind words! The terrain belongs largely to Steve Jones (http://paintingshed.blogspot.co.uk/) and is superb! The scratch-built fort (see his blog for a WIP thread on that) is particularly wonderful!

We always put a lot of effort in to ensuring that we are as pleasant and communicative as possible when doing a demo game. We all believe that is the way to do it, so we all try to explain as much as we can to observers, either individually or en-masse - the latter happened at one point where a fairly sizable crowd watched Arthur's force get beaten, helped by some truly atrocious dice rolling from yours truly, of course  ::)  Mind you, I asked for it a bit by 'playing to the crowd' and putting more into the attacks than I normally would 'for show'... lol

I'm glad it all came together Andy and the prize was well deserved.

I was there and was very impressed by the figures, the basing and the terrain - inspirational stuff!
