How would you characterize this year's attendance?

I think my Brother put it perfectly in another thread, 'I've never had to queue for a wargames show before!'. According to the attendant we spoke to, there was 4000 advance ticket sales alone!! We were in the 'People Who Hadn't Planned Ahead' Queue and that was fecking looooooooong!!

There were some spectacular games, including several from leading lights on this forum

There were also still some idiots playing on upturned Subbuteo cloths with rubbish bits of scenery... I know I bang on about it every year but...

WHY???!!!

At the biggest wargames showcase in the world, for crissakes... 

We were in the 'People Who Hadn't Planned Ahead' Queue and that was fecking looooooooong!!

Every year The Warlords promise to try to sort out the queue issues for the next year, and every year it's just as bad. Perhaps given the sheer volume of people trying to cram in one doorway, coupled with the security / health and safety jobsworths running Excel, it's just insoluble.
I had an advance ticket, deliberately didn't turn up until half an hour after the show opened - and still I had to queue for an age to get in... 
More entrances would seem to be the answer, but perhaps they just can't muster enough volunteers to process such a mass of visitors in such a short space of time.
It's irksome though, no doubt about it.

Really? I'm asuming it wasn't a demo by the Postmodern Irony Wargamers or some such group? I haven't seen anywhere near as much of that at the local shows so I'm surprised to hear of it at Salute.

What I should have said was: do you know how long I spent ironing that Subbuteo pitch?

@Captain Blood-What I REALLY didn't get was why they had everyone queuing up along the opposite wall from the entrance to the hall, then have half the volunteers herd groups of people through the flow of marathon entrants like common lollypop ladies!?!?

Still only a minor point in a great day!! I don't think it'll stop us making the pilgrimage next year!!

P.s. is that now normal practice at huge wargames shows to use gorgeous, well endowed young girls to try and sell wargames magazines? It took me a while to realise what they were selling!!!......and eyes down to the magazine!
