Hi Cpt Kremmen,

Four companies are equipped with the Military Rifle & Bayonet combination as standard:
1. British Army - Sergeant & Riflemen
2. Society of Thule - Feldwebel & Jagers
3. Legion Entrangere - Sergeant & Legionnaires
4. USMC - Gunnery Sergeant & Marines

Of these The Society of Thule's Troops have the Bayonet Drill Talent already costed into their Feldwebel & Jagers.
The other three all have it as an option for a mere 2 points.

No other company has its troops equipped with the Military Rifle and Bayonet combination.

So should you choose to take troops that have the Military Rifle & Bayonet combination, but not pay for the Bayonet Drill talent, then you are correct. They are so inexpert with this combat form so they might as well fight with it the bayonet as a mere knife.

So, don't have the rules yet, but am wondering how much minis a company must have at least?
Is it possible to make very small, hard hitting companies with just around 3/4 modells?

The rules are aimed at around 10-12 per company; with maybe 2 leaders, 2 specialists and a load of cannon fodder troops according to the type of company you are aiming for.

It would be possible to create a company with 3 or 4 figures, but this goes against the ethos of the rules and would severely limit you in meeting some game objectives (e.g. searching for an object). Also, there are no unkillable characters - a roll of 1 on d10 always fails and the rules allow for groups to 'gang up' on an opponent to improve their chances to hit (using the best figure's attack roll and adding bonuses for each other figure in the attack).

Thanks for the answer, Bullshot :)

I made a few "Warbands" a while ago for myself, without any rules in mind, and was wondering if I could use them with these rules.
Most of them are between 6 and 8 minis, the smallest one 3.

But shouldn't be a problem to stock them up a little ;)

Eagerly awaiting these rules reaching the "Colonies". :-*

I just have one initial question for those who have/know the rules - is the location for the game principally European, or could the game suit any world location?

The thought of creating a realistic-looking Victorian London/Paris/Berlin game board fills me with absolute terror (not to mention making my bank balance scream), but recreating 1900 era Peking/Shanghai surprisingly doesn't, so I'm wondering if adventures could just as easily be based there?

Just nice to know before I start drawing plans and cutting up foam card  :D
Enjoying the game is ALWAYS more important than winning the game.

Anywhere in the world where clandestine (or not so clandestine) forces of governments and men of power compete to secure anything that will aid their cause; including China, Afghanistan, Darkest Africa, Egypt, the Wild West, etc, etc.

Excellent, that means my plans for a the guardians of the Empire's tea supplies (and of course those dastardly types who might try to cut them off) may well work.  :D

Have airships or similar vessels been raised (no pun intended) in or around the rules as yet?

I'm enjoying the recent questions on this topic, as I am in the middle of writing an extended work of fiction set in the universe of these rules that:

a) has the initial chapter take place in China, and
b) involves an airship.

Obviously, we're all thinking along the same lines!

I've had LAM's Steampunk miniatures for about two years. I also snagged two Brass Coffins from Ramshackle Games as well as a bunch of his pith helmet and gas mask heads. Combined with Wargames Factory redcoats this will all become two or three companies from the East India Trading Company.

I WILL secure the finances of the Empire, even if I have to force colonists to buy my tea!

I'm really looking forward to seeing where you go with this. I'm ridiculously excited about this game, and seeing what everyone else comes up with.

So far it's an idea, but actual results will be a little while in forthcoming! I have some figures from Ironclad - the British Line Infantry chaps - I picked up at Salute waiting on the sidelines to be attended to, but I need to finish some other painting first.

It will also help once I've got a copy of the rules to see the custom company creation rules as I'm flailing in the dark a bit at the moment, but the greenstuff will be coming out in small amounts, not least to make some sort of tea urn based device that may well end up being a 'Steamthrower' (as Mason suggested calling it on the other IHMN thread  :D), plus working out characters and so forth.

As it is I'm also thinking maybe some of the BASC figures from the North Star Africa Range might be useful once adapted a bit. I might even have to restart my defunct blog!

Thanks Craig, missed your reply initially. Not really running into many anomalies in the rules yet. Which is pretty good. Focussing on painting at the moment.

And just starting to play the new Dead Mans Hand Cowboy rules I also picked up at Salute.

Hi Hunter,

The answer to your question of a week or so ago is yes, we'd love to serialise your work. I need to pass on a few points of feedback which are background related, not the text.

Looking forward to reading more...
