Good idea. I will have to scratch build something something fairly flat so that it doesn't get broken when I put everything in the pappis box.
Theres more 28mm Superhero Madness at my blog, http://fourcoloursupers.blogspot.com/

Thank you.

I there any chance one of you Finns could help me out. I want to do some signs for my shop, and I want help with the wording. I need a 'Staff Only' sign and an 'Emergency Exit' sign. Could you help?

  • But maybe everything that dies, someday comes back
Google translate has those as "vain henkilökunnalle" and "hätäuloskäynti", respectively. But Google Translate being what it is, I have no idea if that's right in actual Suomi.

Yep, sounds about right. Looks good to me, keep at it. I must say that the last source photo doesn't look particularly Finnish, more like some ski resort in the Alps? Although you might see something like that in Lappland, I suppose? But I might be wrong.

EDIT: yeh the picture info says Ruka, so it's from Lappland. Looks distinctly Swiss/German to me?

For the houses I am going to do the traditional wood buildings. What interested me about that picture was the stone built up to the first few feet of the wall. I guess that is traditional because of the snow when it comes to wooden buildings.

Sure, and it's not just the snow but moisture in general, you don't want that creeping up in the foundation. In many old buildings ('torppa' is good search word, although you get some pics of random blond bimbo as well, sorry), they just raised the building off the ground by placing some stones in corners and various strategic points, and then built the house on top of those. That way you'd end up with an empty space underneath the house. But you see all kinds, some start right off the ground without any foundation etc.

A few more details here, and I have painted it.

The signage was printed off on the computer and laminated it, then mounted on card.

And here you can see the Air-con/refrigeration units. I have built these out of a few bits of GW tanks and some plasticard. They are more ore less flat, which isn't realistic, but it is a concession to the fact this has to be stored in a PAPPIS box, and anything sticky-outy would break off or take up valuable space.

All that is left to do now is the nerve-wracking bit: The snow. I am using fine white plaster filler and snow flock. It's the first time I have use this technique and I am rather worried it might cock up all my work to date.  :-[

Wonderful, Rob, simply wonderful.

This is turning into a great little scratchbuild with a free geography lesson thrown in for good measure.
 :D

Looking forward to the next update.

Very nice.

Regarding the snow - do a test run on a piece of card. Wait a day and then learn from that experience. Trying something for the first time with our wargaming work is nerve-racking for all of us. Doing a test drive makes things go smoother.

I think I've shopped there. :o

Did you know: That company operates four levels of food store chains. Previously they were branded with an increasing number of 'K's to denote the size. However, apparently some hypersensitive folks had something against the 3rd level stores proudly displaying their huge "KKK" neon signs over the horizon. Thereafter it's been just single 'K's with a verbal descriptor. Boring.

I remember as a tutor taking new foreign exchange students (from the US and UK) to their student flats and on the route there was a supermarket of this K-chain, displaying the three neon K's.... yip, I had quite a lot of explaining to do.

KKKK = Citymarket
KKK = Supermarket
KK = ?
K = Local market

Very impressive work on the K-market Rob. Do you need some photo reference about what kind of advertisements they use on their windows etc? Or any other pictorial reference for that matter, just let me know.
