For future reference, the predominant color for Finnish wooden houses and outbuildings (especially pre-war) is overwhelmingly red, with white window and door trim. For slightly later ones, you do get a lot of colors, though. Especially in the so-called "rintamamiestalot", which were generic housing conceived of in the late forties to accommodate the migrations caused by losing all that territory to the Soviets.

The snowmobile is cool, but a bit too "hardcore" for the Finnish climate, it looks more polar-explorer caliber. If you can find some of the smaller, "ski-doo" type somewhere, they're  appropriate for Lapland, being used for hunting, motorsports, tourism and the like.

Also, as a movie recommendation, I urge you to find and wath Rare Exports if you've not done so already :D

Oh...just watched the trailer! very cool. I am going to get that ASAP.

Regarding the snow mobile- I am inclined to agree. It's much bigger than I thought it would be in the picture. I think I will keep it for a  future project- an kind of Ice Station Zero/The Thing idea I had.

I will do my next house red, as I agree that it seems to be more common. I went for green because I don't have the right red in my collection, but I was a bit disappointed how dark it came out. I was hoping for a nice pea-green. The next one will be better.

Thanks for the advice.

When I first saw Silent Invader's range that was the first thought that came to my mind too.
I love those figures and have plans for a Thing-thing in the future.
Loving what you are doing with them Rob.
Very inspirational!

Its not Finland without trees!

I bought these trees for a reasonable price (£20 for 24 trees) off a model train shop. The bases are by 4Ground.

I applied plaster filler fairly roughly to create bumps.

I used PVA to stick various textures of sand to the bases, then painted them burnt umbra.

I sprayed them form a good distance- about an arms length, with white GW spray paint. I spayed the trees form above to create a frosty look.

I used plaster filler to make some patches of snow. I applied tome to the branches with a brush too.

I used PVA to apply snow flock to the base. A small sieve made sure there wasn't any clumps of snow.

One down- laods to go.

Excellent  8)

It'll certainly be easier to transport with the trees separate to the scenic base - great thinking
