Advice
« on: May 01, 2013, 03:58:33 PM »
Looking for a bit of advice. I am 90 percent complete my rules set INEPTT, I have a couple different play testers as well (thanks Machine Gun Kelly for one) and so the amount of input I have had on the rules is very well rounded. I also have the opportunity to have some exclusive miniatures cast for the rules and I am looking at a publication on demand or self publication run on the rules. My quesiton is - does this sort of project work from Kickstarter? I have very little knowledge of kickstarter but it seems that a lot of people are going that route.

Any advice is more than welcome.

Sounds perfect for Kickstarter, but only once you've looked into the figures of both doing your thing, the KS fees, taxes, etc, with a firm eye on making a profit.

Horror stories I've heard include folk not realising how it would make them VAT liable, the 10% due to KS, the cost of postage which they originally offered free, shifting up a tax bracket, and ever increasing overheads. Missing one of those is bad - should you get a combination of them wrong you're in trouble.

also, have your production lined up and priced prior to. There have been stories of a product going to kickstarter, getting funded and the 3rd parties needed to produce said product negotiated price using the kickstarter as intel. Have stretch goals well mapped in advance and have whatever team you need standing by to produce art or whatnot in case you surpass said stretch goals.
