I also fancy a bit of real monster hunting akin to a Brotherhood of the Wolf type scenario.

A Brotherhood of the Wolf type campaign -maybe with a "real" werewolf, or -less obviously- the 'master' of the 'beast' being a vampire (or a psychopath fancing himself as such) indeed offers a lot of possibilities.

My original plans were for a zombie apocalypse on the Continent after the Seven Years War,

As for zombies, I dream of someone playing Pride & Prejudice & Zombies by the time of Barry Lyndon...

Regarding rules, there is a "Brotherhood of Wolves" scenario for .45er/Gloire.
Pulp Alley or Strange Aeons would also work for monster-hunting games.

This thread is great. It's nice to see some horror that's not spliced up with Steampunk. That seems to be the thing nowadays 

Great stuff, I shall follow with interest! I have often thought about this idea - 18th Century just seems to work well for the genre. Probably The Brotherhood of the Wolf's influence in my mind.
