Building an Orc army in a hurry
« on: May 18, 2013, 11:49:09 PM »

This is the task I've set myself (more or less) - paint (and in some cases build) this lot to add to my Orc and Goblin army over the next three weeks.

I'm trying to get them all painted for a game of Kings of War at the beginning of June - about 35 Goblins and around 50 Orcs, as well as a couple of war machines and some mounts (I may have to proxy a few wolves with boars, as it seems I have more wolf-riders than wolves, unfortunately).

More details and pics on my fantasy adventuring blog: http://fantasyadventuringblog.blogspot.co.uk/ - the label 'Raising the Standard' has the posts for this project.

I have yet to paint my first army and I know that I couldn't do it in 25 days. It can take me two weeks to paint a single figure.

These are some nice figs and I wish you the best on meeting your goal

Two weeks to paint a single figure?

In which case, I'm pretty confidant that your standard of painting is far superior to mine! These will very definitely be 'bish - bash - bosh - next!'. I don't tend to paint anything in groups of less than five... and as long as I take my glasses off and look at them from more than a metre away, they look fine.  ;)

EDIT: ah, yes, I've seen your pirates - they're superb. Nothing in my Orc/Goblin force will approach anything like as nice as them. My goal is to paint many more minis for sure, but to a much lower standard!

An update on my progress over at http://fantasyadventuringblog.blogspot.co.uk/2013/05/raising-standard-before-and-after-wip.html

And as a special treat, an I'm afraid slightly fuzzy shot of the Orco-Goblinian horde as I'm in the process of painting bits of it:

Another update... http://fantasyadventuringblog.blogspot.co.uk/2013/05/raising-standard-some-more-paint-on-day.html

Honestly, this is incredible progress for me, go and ask over at the VSF boards, I never post updates over there...

Thanks, A_Train.

I have to admit it's not exactly a chore. I'm a big fan Citadel's output from the mid-80s (when I started this lark) up to the early 1990s (and to be fair, a lot of things since then too) and most of these minis are from that sort of period. Really, I'm using this as a motivation to get myself into gear! Some of these guys have been hanging around unpainted for years. Decades even. In the process, I'm re-acquainting myself with some great figs, and I hope the end result will be a load of minis I'm happy to take out to games... as an end in itself (painting cool old minis), it's enjoyable, as a means to an end it's also enjoyable in, that I'll probably get more games out of doing it. Win - win situation, I think (even if I lose)!
