Thank you, everybody!

That was one heck-of-a evening. The last die actually dropped into a box at 5 am. The pictures of us from that time of the "night" weren't so pretty. We don't make a habit of it  o_o

The minis held up better after all that gaming. Kvig's Retinue was ready to battle on:

but we needed sleep.

It was so epic, we played again last Saturday Night, only 3 weeks later. AAR of that to come soon to the website.

I love seeing everyone else's gaming groups too! I'm excited to hear about your families playing as well.

Keep having fun!

I think the cool part is actually seeing the players involved, watching their in-game scheming and strategizing, etc. It helps put faces to the games, you know?

Thank you again all! You want scheming and strategizing? You got it!

After the defeat of the Vangen orc army at the Battle of Skarken River, peace and safety should be on the horizon. However, tensions are high between the bonders and the thanes:

Sagas of the Gautrian Kings #41- The Crows of Skarken

Upon their victorious return to Timlin, Kvig and the other jarls feasted at the Keep, while Kvig's champion Bleddyn hosted a great party at his inn.

As the festivities ran their course, the bonders spread word of a Bonder's Thing. Bleddyn was asked to bring Jarl Kvig to the Thing at Alnar, the site of his first victory over the orcs (Sagas of the Gautrian Kings #10- The Battle of Alnar).

There, the bonders declared Kvig Melgarson should be their king!

Sagas of the Gautrian Kings #42- King of the Bonders

Kvig and Bleddyn were willing to winter before furthering their cause, but Wynston argued they should garner support now while their victory at Skarken River was fresh.

Wynston set about making plans and things got really interesting.

Come read all about it on the website! Catch up from the (sort of) beginning: http://swordandsorceryrpg.com/the-campaign/

I admit that through the early morning brain haze I haven't read all the words...there are a lot of them you know. HOWEVER, I did enjoy all the photos. That Village on the Hill is BEAUTIFUL, & the Crew reminds me of Friends long absent from my life. GREAT STUFF!
I'd NEVER join a club that would have me as a member.  G.Marx

Last Saturday we held an all-day BIG WARGAMING EVENT. We used our tweaks of the Fantasy Warrior ruleset and held 2 skirmishes and then a 3 on 2 battle. We wanted to see how events were unfolding north of one of our main character groups, and get our friends together for some fun! I even cooked bread and beef stew for everyone.

The first encounter was an orc raid on the coastal village of Larbro. Our daughter played the humans whose objective was to get a unit of women and children out of the village.

She had 3 light infantry units and a leader. Our long-time friend and player took her on with 3 units of orcs and 2 urog heroes.

He had two rounds to row in and land his troops.

The women had to get from the sod huts across the 4ft x 4ft "shore" and through a gap in the rock wall at camera left. It was about 10 rounds of movement for them.

Our youngest son helped her with the movement and rolling. They moved 2 of the units onto the beach to greet the orcs as they disembarked. The veteran bondi unit stayed a bit behind to screen the women.

The battle hero also wound up a bit behind, as he stood alone in the field awaiting the charging urog heroes.

Our youngest won a key initiative to allow a unit to join the battle leader.

But the rolling did not go our daughter's way, as her units were decimated and routed.

The humans fought bravely, but their losses were too great.

The League of Nil-ith Horn orcs get loots and a beachhead from the first skirmish of the afternoon.

Great looking terrain and miniatures.  Looks like a very cool campaign.
So many games, so little time.

I LOVE the photos. They bring to mind people I haven't seen in long years & the games we played...the after effect of day(s) long battles are somewhat less painful when remembered than when the experience was fresh.
If I was that type of person I'd be envious, but I rejoice in your good fortune...you richly deserve these SPLENDID moments.

Thank you very much, DeafNala! As I look at everyone's smiling faces, I can't wait to do it again! The only thing I might do differently is to try a smaller big battle in the middle of the day so the kids can get in on that action. (Tough call though, as total on-gaming-table time was already close to 8 hours!) I'm glad you can share the joy. To paraphrase Bill Parcells, American football coach, "This is what we paint all them minis for!"

The day after was a bit staggering. I had every intention of getting the pix rated, resized and uploaded but I wound up half-catatonic in front of the football games all day. Good thing it was a long weekend for us   o_o

Great looking terrain and miniatures.  Looks like a very cool campaign.

Thanks! This campaign has been so much fun to play in. I still have the end of summer adventures to get up on the website. It's a source of constant creative inspiration for me.

The second battle in our BIG WARGAMING EVENT was a Skirmish on the Northern Plains. Some of the League of Nil-ith Horn troops crossed over the mouth of the Torgova river and marched overland in an attempt to link up with the landing parties. King Gorm’s outriders caught one such band as the orcs left the cover of the forest.

Bleddyn ran the human forces as another of our 20+year players commanded the League of Nil-ith Horn orcs.

Alarun looks on while awaiting the final battle.

Bleddyn's light infantry flew through the woods to pin the veteran League of Nil-ith Horn orc division in the woods, while orcs, urogs and cavlary crashed together in the middle of the field.

The losses were heavy on both sides.

In the end it was the ulfhednar against the Elite League of Nil-ith Horn battle leader.

The Orc Battle Leader and human bannerman each got a save.

And only the bannerman survived!

A well-fought game down to the last throw!

And the final battle (#3) of the evening waaaay back in November was the Battle of Turlin.

For this battle, my husband did double duty as referee and bad guy. He joined the League of Nil-ith Horn side and played on the black team, while Bleddyn and I shared command of the North Gautrian army (Jarl Kvig was unable to game, but was there for some moral support.)

The League of Nil-ith Horn raiding forces massed outside the village of Turlin. King Gorm of North Gautria brought his cavalry and heavy infantry from the west. Jarl Skalla Grimmson (our jarl Kvig's uncle) rode from his wooden keep Jarlin, in the south. And Baron Athelston answered the call with his elite Kildarian cavalry.

Deployment was meticulous...

But the battle was fast and bloody!

In the end, our day of Fantasy Warrior battles culminated with the destruction of a large part of the North Gautrian army, the retreat of Jarl Skalla, and the slaying of King Gorm!
