Disc[s] of Tzeentch
« on: May 20, 2013, 01:58:43 AM »
Hey folks, I'm working on a 2nd Ed 40K project in between other things (pics forthcoming I promise), but I've hit a snag with the Chaos Lord.

I want him mounted on a Disc of Tzeentch, but I really don't like the ones that GW is currently putting out. Does anyone have any suggestions for something else I can use?

I want something that looks organic; flat but with toothy maw and claws, but still mostly flat and alien looking.

Just putting it out there, I'm not much of a sculptor, so greenstuff is not the best option for me.

I've seen someone use two circular clear flight bases glued bottom to bottom. Then painted with inks, it looked pretty good to me.

Take a flightstand thingy, possibly glue a ply/ acrylic/ whatever disc on top and add a shield:

There's some others, but the one in the pic above has the most teeth.

Show us some pictures of what you don't like...and we'll give you some ideas.  Honestly I don't even know what the current discs of Tzeentch look like.  I actually used to use some of the really old ones for my Farseers and Warlocks (counted them as jetbikes).  So you want something pretty grotesque?

PS: I would maybe even consider buying up some real or fake animals teeth (sharks teeth or something small)...you could make some pretty awesome stuff with very minimal work or sculpting.

This is the current production DoT:

As you can see, it's a flat, metallic disc with added spikes.

To quote the good book; "Discs are unspeakable creatures of warp space, shark-like predators that hunt the souls of mortal creatures in the endless seas of Chaos. They take the shape of flattened, plate-like creatures, with vicious teeth and sharp spines. They have no limbs and move by hovering over the ground."

As a thanks, here are some pictures of the army coming together:

As you can see, it's a real mix of figures. The army will be Word Bearers when I get around to painting them.

Get a screamer of Tzeentch and mount your guy on top perhaps? ;)

I've seen that done a few times Daeothar, and whilst it looks ok, I'm not mad keen on my Chaos Lords riding around on a space stingray.

I guess I was hoping that there was a company somewhere making "Not-Discs", like the many GW alternatives that pop up.
