Was the Maus real, or just a tank designer's dream? Did any make it off the production line or see action?

I understand it was produced in very small numbers but never saw action, of course I am sure a more knowledgeable person will be able to give you a better answer and in more detail :)

regards

Paul

I'm guessing you're right Paul! ;)
Just curious. Thanks for the reply.
They look very good by the way, and everybody speaks very highly of your models, so I'm looking forward to getting one or two to accompany my Perry 8th Army :)

I shall probably refrain from equipping my Afrika Korps with a Maus though  ;)

Well, do you think we'd ask for it to just look at the shiny pics of your model?  ;)

Jimbibbly might buy one to use as the base for a wizards tower. I understand the enormous weight involved would be a desirable characteristic.  ;)

Well if there is enough interest we would certainly seriously look at it in 1/56 scale.

There would be a minimum of 20 models to make it worthwhile so a kickstarter may be required :o

Folks may wish to see how the Maus turns out before committing such a specialised project??

So back to you guys, who would like one?

Yay, a KickStarter! o_o

Yep, people do buy (impractically) huge and expensive "miniatures" every day so it's not as if the idea of making one is entirely outlandish. I might well buy one just for the heck of it. Ratte is still at the bigger end of the spectrum tho so I wouldn't expect it to sell like hotcakes, so a score or so might actually be in the right ballpark.

On the subject of Maus, I've always found it a bit dull as tanks go. It's a huge brick, sure, but nothing much else. Ratte and some of the smaller experimental tanks are much more interesting visually.

While not especially interested in a Ratte in 1/56, (might be fun to use as an objective in a game, but can't really see it having much use beyond that as it would simply be too big on a 28mm tabletop) were you to consider producing the E series 'paper panzers' you could count on interest from me. They seem a more practical proposition both in terms of production cost & tabletop useability (I would suggest the E25, 50 & for the fun of it, the 100 - perhaps offering alternate turrets, Adler, Krupp, Henschel & Porsche designs are all documented & your proposed Maus already sports the Porsche one, upgrade the 128mm brake-less gun for a 150mm with a large, perforated barrel-like muzzle-brake & you'd have the first one).

A Ratte in 1/56th scale would probably clog up most standard gaming tables and cost a small fortune.  The 15mm model is bigger than many 1/35th scale kits.
