The Great Italian Wars for "Pike and Shotte"
« on: June 02, 2013, 05:51:33 PM »
I collected a few foundry Landsknechts over the last couple of month. And I will try to build something playable with, may be "pike and shotte".
It won't be over historical... more generic, for example using perry plastic mercenaries as italians (even thou they are way to old fashioned to fight against landsknechts).... :)

Here is what I have painted so far:

Not decided how to base them... ???

Cheers,
Don

Very nice indeed  :-* :-*

If I were to do something similar I'd base them on 40x40 bases and have three or four to a base. You can still get a regimented feel but also a bit of a vignette touch to it as well depending on the figures used  :)

Nice job indeed!

Reminds me of my own Landsknechts somewhere in the leadpile...

Thanx, for your kind comments...:)

I based the next bunch of troops. This time poorer mercenaries from Italy or in french service.
I know they are way to old fashioned for the period after 1500, but perhaps they get their stuff at the second hand market or wear the armour of their grandpas...:)

I ve taken the perry-plastic-mercenaries (sticking with the perry-theme) and based them 3 models on a 4x4cm-base. They will skirmish most of the time...

Okay here is the first unit, italian or in french pay.

And some arquebuse.

Cheers,
Don

You can never have too many Landsknechts and these are rather nice, good effort !

I like the French infantry too, I'm interested in painting some up at some point but have delayed over how to do it and what figures to use.

These are what i've come up with so far for Picard Pike c. 1513 in the Therouanne campaign;

Regarding Landsknecht basing i prefer to base pike on 120 x 120mm bases, so much so that I wrote an essay on it!;

Hope that helps,

Start a blog too, I want to see more !

All the best, Stuart

Great start - very nice looking figures.
I too like the backdrop - it inspires me for some terrain that looks like rolling Tuscan countryside for a possible future Italian Condottiere project.
Look forward to seeing more.
Simon.
