I have been painting a few figures for some proposed skirmish games in the 40K-verse later this year.  We plan to use the 7TV ruleset and to focus on Inquisitor style, 5-10 models per side sort of engagements.  If you have read the Eisenhorn or Ravenor books, then you will know the sort of techno-gothic James Bond capers that we want to create.  I have high hopes for some fun games.

The first models finished are these two navigators and a gyrinx.

Navigator Heinlein here is an old RT figure and the gyrinx is a cat model from Mega Miniatures.

This guy will represent a Navis Nobilite Novator or Heir Apparent.  The model is Reapers Dr Totenkranz.

The angle on the photo below is a bit crappy, but it should give you an idea of how the three look together.  I will get a better group shot taken at a later date.

I am hoping to focus on painting the more interesting and characterful side of the WH40K setting that I missed out on before now.  Mainly the project is a opportunity to paint a few oddball and fun sci-fi figures from different manufacturers and play some fun games with them.

Next up is likely a Commissar or two and a RT era Inquisitor, maybe an ogryn or assassin or rogue trader or tech-priest or jokaero or death ferret etc

Comments and criticisms all welcome of course :)

Those look really nice. I'd love to find one of those navigators someday. (or just about any of the older RT stuff to be honest.) I am painting up some old 40K stuff right now for a similar reason. I love the old figures, but I can't stand the current rules and tournament mentality. A skirmish game set in that universe could be a real blast.

Beautiful paint job on all of them and the chosen colours fit to the 40K just like the minis. Will be nice to see this group grow.

Great stuff, but isn't a Gyrinx supposed to be red  ;)

Thanks for the feedback guys :)

Great stuff, but isn't a Gyrinx supposed to be red  ;)

From Rogue Trader:

"A Gyrinx resembles a large cat, with very thick and fluffy ginger or orange fur and bright blue eyes."

I chose to ignore this canonical "fact" :)  Ginger cats are quite common in real life so I chose something a bit more exotic.  I also painted a purple guy for use as a DreadBall assistant coach and I have numerous other cat models waiting in the wings.  I plan to have a large number of unlikely coloured cats by the time that I am finished.  Remember, the universe is a big place and whatever happens, gyrinx come in every colour.

It's a Manx gyrinx.

Well, its got a tail...  ;)

Looks great anyway. I might paint up some of my Mega Mini cats as Gyrinx too..

On another note Black Cat Bases is actually make a cat that looks very much like the GW Gyrinx, just a tad smaller. I should take a comparison photo one of these days.

Very nice and good idea using 7TV, I'll be interested in hearing how it works.

Ditto - and really grand paint job. After the Dreadball thread the Cheetor's label is one I've started to look out for.  8) 8) 8)
And I love the Gyrinx.

Thanks.  The cats were very quick and surprisingly satisfying to paint, so I plan to get a few more done over the next while.

I know the figures (and I have one of them on my painting table at the moment actually).  The Black Cat cats are slightly peculiar in design, almost like a cat muppet or something, but they look particularly suitable for use as alien species I think.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Commissars next I think.

I got a commissar and his aide finished.

I bought the commissar from Mega Miniatures.  Its a Demon Blade or Shockforce figure I think.  The female is a Foundry Street violence figure.  As is rather apparent the female figure was designed to look like a woman who dresses up in uniform recreationally, but I couldnt resist adding it to this set of figures anyway.

More details on my blog.

Comments and criticisms all welcome.

Thanks for putting the comparison shot up Jonas :)  I dont have the "proper" gyrinx model although I do have that particular Black Cat cat, so its interesting to see them side by side.
