Great work on the figures and I particularly like the gas beasties.

Cheers

Crikey, sir. I'm looking forward to today. Up diddly up, down diddly
down, whoops, poop, twiddly dee - decent scrap with the fiendish Red
Baron - bit of a jolly old crash landing behind enemy lines - capture,
torture, escape, and then back home in time for tea and medals.

The green Martians are from Aegis Figures:

 http://aegisfigures.blogspot.com/2010/10/sw1-bug-warriors-for-sale.html

They take quite a bit of assembling and cleanup, but I find them very rewarding.  With a bit of creative snipping, filing and filling, you can equip them with more or less anything you'd like (they originally come with swords, spears, bows and throwing discs).  They'd probably make good selenites too?

Exactly my thoughts; Well, added to the list of possibilities. As I'm of all opposable digits (though you prove them worth the effort), and am a bit daunted by the costs, will have to wait and cogitate before committing to the hordes in the Moon.

The Nomad Martians are from Ironclad:

And I've just noticed they have added more, which I may have to get :)

Those haven't tempted me yet, but give them chance to grow on me. I want so much Ironclad as it is, what-the-hey?

Thanks all.  Here's a few photos from a skirmish game - 4 teams with about 5 figures each.  British, Belgians, Red and Green Martians all converged on an ancient temple during a sandstorm.  The Brits have a native guide and a couple of eminent Martinaologists with them - attempting to unlock the temple's secrets.

Basically, the Brits were sneaking about doing their best to stay out of trouble, whilst picking off the low hanging fruit from the opposing forces. Meanwhile the Belgians got ripped to shreds in a crossfire with the Red and Green Martian forces.  Before the Green Martians closed in and chopped them into little bits.  The British scientists deciphered mysterious inscriptions on 2 of the 3 sub-altars, pressed a couple of nearby carvings, which caused a strange monolithic machine to emerge from the central altar positioned at the end of the silted up canal. A loud humming filled the air and static electricity crackled between wind-borne sand particles (Which attracted some natural wildlife).

Before the scientists could scramble down to use the machine, they too were killed in a crossfire by the last Green Martian and the Red Martian leader, the latter had been taunting them to try and use the machine.  He used the control panel after the killings. While the Green Martian made a tactical retreat to get reinforcements (to fetch some of the fresh meat).

The last Brit shot the Red Martian leader in the back, causing his men to flee.  Then the Soldier scrambled down, eluding the local scavengers, and pressed the big green button on the machine, which was pulsing softly - he had no clue what would happen.  This caused the pumping station to operate again (as that is what the temple really was), bringing a huge surge of water up from an ancient underground aquifer.

This action will bring stability (and much needed water) to the 2 remaining cities in the region, and win favour for the Brits.

This was an enjoyable game that came down to the wire.

Usually constant changing fortunes, I see. Also, to the brave goes the bullet in the back...  ;)

Always love to see the recycled pressed paper packing; we've several things at the shop. People never see the value until shown; most of ours just use single 'spires' grouped on a base to look like fallen menhirs and dolmens.

Haven't gotten around to any circles, mind you.  lol

Keep us informed!

Yeah, that packaging is very useful - the ones used here all stack nicely and can be filled with other bits and bobs for storage.  Very convenient.  It also looks decent with a quick drybrush.

I managed to get some time to paint the first of my city/canal Martians tonight.

The woman is a converted Copplestone cavewoman with some added greenstuff and a sword from Wargames Factory.  The man is a Bronze Age mini - he's ended up looking a bit like the late Pete Postlethwaite! :D.

Had a look at the cavewoman and, must say, excellent conversion! Here, she's no mere ornamental figure; definitely eyes full of menace.

Will say, comment on nesting scenery gave me a small start; that surface can be like sand paper. However, as you say, cheap-and-cheerful including repaints and replacement.

Thanks so much!

Doug
