are there any 28mm Detective games?
« on: June 23, 2013, 02:28:49 PM »
Hello,
Does anybody know any detective game rulesets for 28mm miniatures? I mean the solving-a-murder-by-finding-clues et cetera kind. I need some for use in a medieval, Cadfael-like setting. To be honest I have no idea if any detective games actually exist, but I thought I could always try to ask around here.
Cheers!

I can only think of boardgames, like Clue/Cluedo:

Though there's a whole family of deduction boardgames you could modify for wargaming:

There's The Department, it is advertised as "Goal System Noir Investigation Skirmish" and is pretty much Blade Runner but the Replicants are called Fabricants ;)

I created a thread here on LAD with my experiences:

The ruleset is generic enough that the near-future aspects could easily be ignored without changing anything, but medieval/fantasy setting would require some substantial modifications I guess ;)

Although there is always Goalsystem Delves which could serve as the framwork with the detective rules from The Department thrown in ;)

The closest thing I have found is Medieval Mysteries rpg by Beyond Belief Games. It's available for free from rpgnow.com. I know its an rpg, but perhaps you could use it for a basis for your own rules? Miniatures as such are fairly to come by.

There's also Larger Than Life by TwoHourWargames. It's very flexible (like all of the games they produce) and can even have other stuff splashed into it easily.

Hi there, we have a game called 'Geezers'"Shut it!" which is a wargame that covers cops and robbers in the 1970s. It features mechanics that may suit your needs such as gathering evidence counters during a game.(Some are genuine pieces of evidence, others are red herrings)

It also features a Police interrogation stage and a court trial and sentencing stage all decided by dice rolls and the number of evidence counters gathered.

I am currently in the early stages of working on a Regency period version and an Elizabethan version but I believe you could easily adapt the 1970s rules to the Medieval period.

Captain Gamma, I completely forgot about your set of rules! I think that may be a great option, and it will also be really useful for use with my Life on Mars miniatures. I already have several of your figures, and when painting those I did think about purchasing Geezers! Shut it!. Thanks for reminding me!  :)
