Do you like Pina Coladas?
« on: June 16, 2013, 03:42:14 PM »
Here is my first contribution to the LAF forum with my Pirate collection as a WIP.  The boards and town are scratch built as are the market stalls, with some extras from Ainsty Castings. Miniatures are from Crusader and Artizan Designs. Please excuse the camera work.

First a shot of the whole table showing the main town of Santa Pina Colada

The town with some buildings still to be finished off.

Part of the docks.

The fort on the promontory.

The sandy beach.

The jungle and village.

The start of the market (more stalls to be added) and in the background the mound where the Governor's house will be.

Next some of the Pirate Crews. These are painted by Tony Laughton of The General's Bivouac.  http://www.thegeneralsbivouac.co.uk/

First up is the Privateer Captain and his crew.

The Pirate Captain and his crew

The Governor with his trusties

Next steps are to finish off the remaining buildings and paint them and the trade goods, add a few more palm trees and populate the town and the fort.  I also have a couple of Ainsty ships in the pipeline.

Finally I have started writing my own Pirate skirmish rules which I have provisionally titled 'Dead Man's Chest'.  I hope to have them finalised soon.

Hopefully this post will spur me to finish the project.

I cheated. The grocery boxes are from Ainsty Castings which come with different produce. Once painted I simply added three different boxes raised on a small plinth. The stall is some bamboo sticks with a small offcut of material.  A shot with more detail is here:

Great work and lots of wargaming possibilities with your town.

And a good selection of minis beautifully painted.

Waiting to hear more about your rules, and an AAR.

Thanks for sharing.
I know you're too old to play with toy soldiers. So give them to me... NOW!

Great little town, I think you'll have great games in the near future.

Looking forward to the governor's house.

To answer your question, no and I don't like getting caught in the rain either.  I do like your town though and the groceries are just brilliant, I have had that set for years and never painted them but now I have some excellent inspiration.

A few more additions to the town.

First is a Gibbet for captured Pirates.

The tavern in the town "The Mermaid Inn".

And finally the Governor's Mansion which is still a WIP.

With some detail of the steps.

I have also been working on the Skirmish Rules which are almost ready to play test.

Great stuff, I especially like the gibbet. :)

cracking... love the pub sign...

get yourself a steel brush (dirt cheap on ebay) and worry the balsa a bit with it, you'll get more detail for drybrushing.

Thanks for the tip Anevilgiraffe.

Thanks for the Zombies Olly - now masquerading as captured pirates.  Just the thing for the 'Rescue the Crew' scenario

What are the lamps on the governor's house made from?

Then you might want to look at the Pirate rules I have written.  They are called Dead Man's Chest.  They underwent their first play test today and with a few tweaks here and there will be ready for further play testing very soon.
