Campaign for the Kingdom
« on: 02 May 2008, 06:03:04 PM »
Hey everybody,
This is my first post. My local gaming group (the Basement Generals) have running a mapless Medieval campaign. There were a lot of pictures from last night so I though I would just link to my blog:
http://baronvonj.blogspot.com/
Some of pictures didn't come out so well due to fact my son had figure prints all over the lens. I didn't find out till I downloaded.
Enjoy!

Vary nice set up, what figures and rules do you use for your midievas?
"Peace" is that brief, glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.

Commisar,
the figs are mostly Old Glory War of the Roses. I'll try to get some close-ups because they are actually one of their better lines (and cheap).
For battle rules we "Flower of Chivalry" by Canadian Wargames Group. I love these rules. Fast (we had 24 units a side and finished in 2 hours), capture what I feel the a medieval commander would deal with, and above all really FUN. A use at our local con, and most people pick it up (even kids) in a turn, and have a blast.
We're using a mapless campaign system. Everyone starts each battle with a core group of 3 units, longbow, knight and men-at-arms (billmen). Then each side takes turns taking one unit from the pool, until everyone has 6 units. Winning side gets 1 prestiege point apiece. The winning commander assigns 1 point to the player (either side) of his choice and has the option to "execute" a player subtracting a point from him. Player on the winning side with most points is the king. Next highest total is the Pretender. First to 12 points wins!

Well I like what I see.
Are the troops based in unites in the rules are is that for easy of transport?
Such as the actualy number of troops on the stand arent really the issue but what they reprasent is?
I think that makes sencse...any ways as I said I like the set up and if that were the case it would save me room and the heart ack of trying to keep track of 100s of indvidual mins.

The bases represent whole units. The original rules use 6 bases with 15mm figs that are removed as hits, I just use a single base (since most medieval units were mobs ranging in size) and use a dry-erase roster card.
I can use multiple bases to use other rule system when needed but I like them the way they are.
