DH4 Paint Scheme?
« on: May 03, 2008, 09:53:44 PM »
All you people posting pictures of your painted planes finally broke down my resolve. So, I have had this die cast DH4 sitting around for a year or two, finally primed it and started painting, but other than a tan basecoat, I have no idea what colors to do.

Now, I should be working on so many other projects right now so the sooner I get this out of my system, the better.  :D

Anyone have any ideas for some colors to break up the tan? Pictures always appreciated.

US Air Mail? Seems somehow more Rattrap than painting her up as a military version:

I'm imagining frenzied hooded cultists chasing the US Mail in Dick Dastardly style crazy planes. The mail must get through! (Top Secret plans accidentally put in the post by absent-minded professor, I think.)

I just picked up Roden's 1/48 D.H.4 a couple of weeks ago, partly because I really like the plane and partly because the paint scheme in the box art really grabbed me.  Sorry I can't link to a picture alone but here's the spec sheet for the aircraft with a colour shot of the artwork.

Sadly the Brits were the most boring nation when it came to plane colours. The standard look would be something like this, a rather boring brownish-green:

Edit: That's a much better scheme, archangel1. Go with that, Rich.

Another non-wartime US scheme, if you want to keep it American:
