any advice how to paint turbans of Bengal lancers?

It depends on the regiment.
Here's how I did mine - Skinners Horse...

Depends on the time period, too. Skinner's Horse had cummerbunds and turbans of a red, gold and black pattern in the 19th Century. Blood's boys are wearing the later colours from the early 20th Century and onwards.

it's more about the windings. Osprey shows a sowar of the 19th Bengal lancers with a dark blue turban and a light blue and a white part. it's not clear how which part is wrapped.

different turbans were worn by Sikh, Muslim and Hindu squadrons, maybe that is a source of confusion?
