Some of the McFarlane dragons are superb but the size of most of them makes them too big for my plans (unless there are smaller ones in the range).

A lot of the Grenadier dragons are available from Mirliton nowadays and I have had the pleasure of placing an order for five of them tonight :)

I have gone for:

White Dragon II
Black Dragon
Green Dragon II
Blue Dragon II
Storm Dragon

I ordered them from here:

http://miniature-heroes.co.uk/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=462_463_469

There is a bit of a wait but it will be worth it :)

I have decided not to paint any until I have a collection of them so that I can decide on colours and also which future dragon will suit as the king of dragons.

I want to have about ten average sized dragons, some young/hatchlings (that are still available from GW) and a single larger dragon that needs to be  terrifying... but I haven't seen what I am looking for yet so any further ideas and suggestions are always welcome :)

Great choices so far! Looks like you've gone with stuff sculpted by William Watt mainly. Can't blame you- his stuff is really clean looking and classic.

Watt did a bigger dragon for Grenadier, although it's more tame-looking than terrifying:

2534 Huge Black Dragon

He also did one for Emperor's Choice, though the size is unclear:

He did one for Reaper too but it is pretty cartoonish.

My own vote for the Big Fella is Teronus, sculpted by John Dennett. He sculpted your Storm Dragon so there would be continuity in style.

2525 Teronus the Ultimate Dragon

Teronus has very much been on my radar but I am not sure at the moment... it's £50-00 and in order to spend that amount of money, it needs to really grip me so I'll see how things go on that.

That Huge Black Dragon looks really nice but I'd definitely need to sort the head out to make it a little less chilled out... that said, the eyes in the image are painted in a 'contemplative' way so maybe painting them slightly differently would totally change the look... but I'd have to find one that is within my money-means before thinking about that.

Hmmm... decisions, decisions :)

Thanks for the pointers :)

I hadn't thought of Forgeworld...

They are very nice but I'm not sure if they are too large for my needs or not...

The Merwyrm is very cool though, especially... and the Magma Dragon.

More food for thought, thanks :)

Very nice work on that dragon :) It really suits the Elf riding it.

I quite like some of the spindly dragons but I am not sure how well they'll fit in with the others... but I guess they could be from a different part of the world...

speaking of which...

Just setting the scene at the moment but there will be plenty more to come :)

...and it explains why I am looking for Dragons :)

Inso: A mate of mine recently unearthed a box of old OOP dragons from the '80's.
There were some great old classics in there.

I know that he intends selling them.
I will have a word with him and see what he has and get back to you for first dibs.
 ;)

I've had this amber dragon from reaper sitting around for years. At first I was just going to paint it on a lark and ebay it, but I've come to like it more while i've looked at it sitting on the shelf here, unpainted and patient.  It's not crazy dramatic in anyway, but I kind of like that in my dragons. Too often I think sculptors try to go a little over the top in one way or another, and it's easier to miss big when you swing big.  This little fellow doesn't take many chances, but for a standard small/young type dragon, I think it succeeds pretty well.

For a bigger dragon, I still have the Lava dragon, and the Imperial dragon, also in a box, untouched. I always thought one of them would be the biggie in my collection, but lately, I'm thinking I may get rid of them, and use another golden oldie I just managed to track down in a dusty basement sale, the Ral Partha Feathered Serpent from Shadowrun. It's a qoatl, so more like a wyvern then a dragon, since it has no legs.  The relative taxonomies are not important to me when it comes to a fantasy creature for my collection / gaming force. If its big and winged, for the sake of rules, I'll call it a dragon if I damn well please. :) Might as well have one I like the look of then.

Unfortunately there are almost no good pictures of it on the web that I can find...

If you're at all interested, I can try and take a bette pic from mine... it's still in the box, but might give you some info one way or another. I can't imagine it'd be super easy to find, but you never know. . . some Laffer or FUUKer might have one in a shed somewhere. ;)

That Amber Dragon from Reaper is growing on me... how tall is it?

Some of teh GW dragons are nice but they have the most 'over done' faces and look a bit... too much. I think they'd need a head-swap to be honest.

Some good suggestions are coming in :)

Thanks to everyone :)

I really like the Noble Knight dragon... but it isn't the style I envisage for Reptiliad. It looks a bit too alien, even mechanical. It is very nice though.

The wyvern (last on the list) is gorgeous but unfortunately, wyverns don't have enough limbs :( . It's a real shame because it has a certain 'great spined dragon' look to it.

As nice as the dragon ogres are, they are not on the list either.

Thanks for the links... I hadn't even thought about Mierce.

I went up in my loft at the weekend an dug out my old Grenadier blue dragon. He is going to get a repaint and become Beowulf's nemesis.
Measure with a micrometer, mark with chalk, cut with an axe, hammer to fit, paint to match!
