Random Fantasy miniatures from my collection.
« on: June 26, 2013, 05:43:42 AM »
Greetings everyone. I have been lurking here for a few weeks, and have finally decided to get around to posting in this FA Forum. I started collecting miniatures in 1999. It started off with a Reaper Dragon, and about 100 or so of the DHA Reaper minis. Then I got into 40k and stopped collecting any fantasy miniatures. About 2 years ago I gradually got back into fantasy minis. It started with the Super Dungeon Explore boxed game. Then I moved on to other random fantasy models on occasion. At the beginning of this year I pretty much stopped doing any Sci-Fi minis, and started focusing solely on fantasy. I want to start documenting some of my work, so here I am.

My first set of pictures are of some classic miniatures. There is a few Citadel, Ral Partha, and even an old Viking Forge Barbarian. These are some of the first solid based minis I have painted in a long time. I preferred slotta base minis, and still do prefer them. I decided to do these because of how nice they look on 20mm round bases. I never use square bases for any of my miniatures, and will use 20mm whenever possible.

My Forest Adventurers.

Hope you enjoy. Stay tuned for more classic miniatures.

Welcome to LAF  :)

I particularly like the white-bearded wizard - whenever I try for white hair it just looks like I left a bit primed and unpainted  lol What's the cobblestone mat you've taken the pictures on?

Hi. I was really happy with how the bearded mini turned out. :) He is actually not supposed to be a wizard. He comes from the Citadel, C05 Specialist Range, and is supposed to be a martial arts monk:  http://www.solegends.com/citc/c05specialists.htm

The cobbelstone matt that I'm using was purchased at a local craft store, in the dollhouse section. It has been a number of years ago that I bought it, but I suspect that the material can still be found.

Welcome from me as well. I like your miniatures, they have something "old-fashioned" going that really appeals to me. Makes me feel... oh... 25 years younger. I remember back in School we had this RPG/Tabletop Club going when Citadel changed from solid to slotta bases. I thought it was the end of western society at that time...   lol

Hi. Thanks for the warm greetings, and kind words.

Next from my collection is the Lore of Zlotty. This is a Citadel miniature. Research shows that the solid based miniature was packaged in the Citadel Wizards line. There is also a slotted version (interested in obtaining) that was included in the Night Horrors range.

Enjoy.

Welcome aboard - great introduction! That would be "Zore" of Zlotty though... =)

I don't think it is Zlore. When painting this miniature I inked the base. It really made the words stick out. The first letter looks like an L with a slight casting error at the top. While the Z in Zlotty is slanted, as a Z should be. The first "Z" is straight up and down, and I do believe it is an L. I don't see how the sculptor made 2 Zs so radically different from one another, in the same piece of art.

I actually spent a good bit of time examining the base once it was inked. Including using my magnifying glass to really give it a very close inspection. I think this miniature was always supposed to be titled "Lore of Zlotty".

However, if someone has the slotted version, and it says Zlore of Zlotty, or can point me to any official reference for the miniature I will be convinced that I'm wrong in my study.

I've only seen it referenced to as Zore of Zlotty (not Zlore, mind)

Since I don't have the mini myself, I'm sure you're right.

Hi. Thanks for the nice compliment.

The top is a Partha Demon.

The bottom miniature is a Citadel C34 Chaos Demon.

Aha, so it is.  Everything from that first Citadel Compendium is sort of lumped together in a single memory of concentrated awesome.
