Short write-up of a SGS-game (no pics...)

Yesterday I managed to get a game in at my club against a willing opponent. The premises were these: The lawmen in town were to escort the bandit leader from the jail to the gallows to "serve justice", the outlaw's gang were to try to free him en route. We managed to play each side in this scenario within 3.5 hrs, and he had never played the rules before!

Special Rules: The Lawmen started with the Sheriff, the bandit leader and 1 Deputy in the office, 2 Deputies were at the gallows but couldn't act until the first shot had been fired. The 6 gangmembers were deployed out of sight, anywhere in town but not within 12" of either the office or the gallows. When the first shot rang out 1D6 civilians would join in with the lawmen as well (trying to mess up our fine, fine necktie party, never!!!) Furthermore, the law needed one man within 2" of the bandit leader to stop him from running away and could only move 6" in that fashion as the bandit leader was shackled. The outlaws were prohibited from shooting at the man herding the bandit leader as a stray shot may hit him, but they could attack in melee. To free the bandit leader from his shackles they needed to spend an action in base-to-base contact.

1st game: I played outlaws and my opponent the law. The sheriff was leading the bandit leader at gunpoint towards a wagon and the deputy trailed a couple of steps behind. Suddenly, the stillness is broken by gunfire! A sniper with a Winchester blows a hole in the deputies head and he tumbles to the ground mortally wounded, and so does one of the horses to the wagon team! 6 citizens take up arms over town and try to stop the bandits. The sheriff loads the bandit leader onto the wagon and climbs over to take the reins, seeing the dead horse he quickly cuts it loose, but in doing so he presents an irresistible target to the sniper on the rooftop. His deadly gunfire drills a hole in the Sheriff and a bullet stops his heart! The townfolk and the deputies at the gallows try their best, but the bandit leader sees his chance and rolls off the back, meanwhile, one of the gangmembers has “procured” a horse, and in a hail of gunfire he picks up the leader and gallop off out of town!

2nd game: I played lawmen and my opponent the outlaws. Wise from the previous incident the Sheriff, bandit leader and deputy exit the backdoor to the office instead and slowly but surely make their way towards the gallows. The outlaws fire upon them and 2 civilians join in. A hectic gunfight break out and the civilians are surprisingly tough, they take out two outlaws despite being non-coms, but the bullets coming back their way make them run for it! The Sheriff is breathing down the leader’s neck, justice WILL be done! They’re almost by the gallows when the outlaws seem to get their act together, in quick succession and in a hail of gunfire first one deputy, then another and finally the third and last deputy are shot down! This is how Legends are made, outnumbered one to three, it’s only the Sheriff left. He’s holding the bandit leader by the scruff of his neck and his long-barrelled Colt is firm in his hand without waivering: “I tell ya, the first one to move will eat hot lead, your boss WILL swing today!” The outlaws glance at each other and wait for the moment to rush him, he can’t possibly take all three on. Two outlaws hesitate, that’s a very large gun in his hand but the third one yells defiantly and… the Sheriff barely moves, fires his gun once and the man falls with a ragged hole between his eyes! “I told ya boys…” the two other outlaws move now that he might be distracted. The Sheriff’s Colt thunders again and one of them tumbles to the ground with both legs shot to pieces, the third and last outlaw standing is wielding his empty shotgun like a club, but the Sheriff smartly side-steps and bashes his head in with the gun-barrel, a sickening crunching sound is heard. Within a minute the former bandit leader, scourge of the Territory is swaying like a sack in the wind.

We had a real blast and I might have converted another gamer to the Old West.

"The Shadow knows!!! Hahahahaha!"
