Good source for 28mm gas lamps?
« on: July 10, 2013, 07:39:46 AM »
I want to eventually add some gas lamps and even some telegraph lines to my tables.  Are there any decent sources?  I see that West Wind makes a nice little box of five (likely enough for my needs)...but I'm loathe to order something like that from abroad, and I can't find a reasonable source in the U.S.

Any suggestions?  (particularly stateside)?

Example: (yes I know they may not be era-precise, but I don't mind)

Eureka make one, I should imagine Eureka USA have it available. It comes with a Dance Hall Assistant but she would fit in with your Wild West people.

Note to self, should have got one (or more) of those when I visited the shop in February!
Cheers,

Look at miniart models at their 1:35 scale buildings and accessories.  The lamps may be slightly over scale but the kits are plastic and multi-part so you can cut them down to the size you prefer.  There are also US stockists.

Most Craft Stores and Dollar Stores sell Victorian era street lamps as part of "Christmas Village" ranges.  You can likely still find them.  The smaller scale I think is perfect for 28mm. They are pre-painted and inexpensive.

I found some passable ones from a Hong Kong seller on eBay that were quite good value. I've previously ordered palm trees from them with no hassle. I can dig out the seller info if you like?

Eh, nah, not a big deal.  Just a "if I stumble across it..." kind of thing.  It's at the end of a long list of stuff that need's doing for Drake's Branch.  I was watching Tombstone the other night and it got me thinking.  lol

But of course - but if someone had posted a cheap quick link to a $5 pack of plastic lamps, I'd have probably ordered some...just nothing something myself or anyone needs to go out of their way to locate.  I may hit up ebay for a simple check though.  ;)

The eBay seller is the delightfully named wehonest_cn. Apparently they are currently 'away'.

At Christmas Michael's had some really good ones in their holiday section. My friend picked up a few packs that we used for a game of Blackwater Gulch. I don't know if they'd have them available in the summer time though.

Oh, come, come, now.  With all of those merchants in all of those 28 mm towns that have shown up here at LAF, you can't just send one of your miniatures inside to buy one or two?  Oh, puh-lease.  What, the merchant is out of stock?  Well, isn't that why there is thread - pardon - rope there on the scaffold?

The best deal, as already suggested, is to check craft stores (esp. Michaels in the USA) for Lemax collectibles. They've got a couple of different sets of victorian street lights, both wired and unwired. Between October and January I haunt those stores. I've picked up tombstones, gargoyles, stone bridges, streetlights, and some really good winter aspens (for those snowy 28mm Russian front games) all at very cheap prices.

They must be 'cause they said so. I won't use their arch rivals 'wecheatingliars_fu'  ;)
