Anyone writing their own pulp rules?
« on: May 13, 2013, 08:48:52 AM »
Last year I'd been working on my own pulp rules set called Gripping Tales of Adventure and after a couple of playtest runs decided it was more or less in a broken state and put it in a digital drawer to collect dust. I've been strangely drawn to the Pulp Alley rules as of late, because they seem to have most of what I want in a pulp game. However, having said that, those old rules are calling to me from their place of rest and I find myself in a mode to revamp or overhaul them and see them to fruition. At least for the sake of my gaming group who keeps saying "..what happened to GTA??"

Anyone else find themselves in the same boat? Tinkering endlessly on what you hope to be your pulp fuelled opus?

I was inspired by this thread in the Open Talk forum.

I have several sets of rules that have all been used at one time or another in the past. Sometimes I am a puritan and just use one set and no other mixed in, then at other times I create a hybrid and mix together some parts of all in one Hodge podge. Bottom line is we should adopt what we want to reflect happen in our games. There are no hard and fast rules (Pun intended) to this area of the hobby.  ;)

I have been tinkering off and on for years until I found and started playing Pulp Alley.

+1

Pulp Alley pretty much has every aspect I wanted in my rules (and more), so now I'm using -and enjoying- them a lot.

Best wishes.
I know you're too old to play with toy soldiers. So give them to me... NOW!

Yep, tinkered with many sets over the years.
Right now I am polishing my A.S.A.P. (As Simple As Possible) rules.
They arent as simple as when they started at this point, but I use them whenever I GM.

Not strictly my own rules, but I've tinkered with Iron Ivan's 'Where Heroes Dare' for a pulpish Home Guard setting (little effort required)  and an English Civil War setting (more effort required). I started to write a gangster version too but decided to reel in my ambitions!

I'm with magokiron.
Below is a link to my blog. It's the place where I write uninteresting things about little toy soldiers. I do this because I refuse to grow up and behave like an adult.
