Just schlepped along from the City to the Model Zone flagship store in Holborn, in search of any last bargains, and it's gone, empty, cleared out, closed down and boarded up  :(
I think they are now officially toast.

I went to Merry Hill last week, there was a sign up saying that the staff had no knowledge of when it would shut.  All they had that I wanted was some polystyrene cement.  :-[

I went to the merry hill one on Sunday, it was rubbish, they had reduced everything to normal RRP......and that was it, stupid waste of time.

Well all the other shops have 20-50% off everything...

So did they (although the only 50% I saw was on paints, which they had none) but the pricing was BS, reducing a tamiya tank kit from £40 to £30 when the RRP was £30 anyway, that is not a reduction.

I've never known them to overprice personally, in fact I've always had good bargains from them over the years but everyone is entitled to their own point of view :)

It's not a point of view...those were the prices  :?

But I'll see if their flagship store can impress me on the 17th when I go to bham, last time I went they had airfix spitfires and messerschmitts on sale for £6 instead of £8.....and that was it

I've got a day off on Thursday, so I'm going to make what's almost certainly my last run on the Newcastle branch, if it isn't gone already. The staff there are nice guys, it's a real shame.

The Holborn shop closed a while ago, even before the administration, and moved to a new location. It's not that far away -- I remember it being a short walk from the British Museum but I couldn't tell you the actual address.

I fear this is simple business economics and those who cannot convince people the "hands on" of a pleasant, knowledgeable, helpful should make them buy there, (of course your need staff that can do that,) are unfortunately going to go out of business.

I regret nothing of buying off the internet when the NSFLGS was around.   ::)

Now that there is one a pleasant FLGS  :-*  nearby that doesn't sell much that I need  :o  (How many D10 do I really need?) I fear that the good shop might go away.   :'(  I really look for stuff to buy that meets my needs for the genres/eras I play but it keeps getting harder and harder...   :-[  Strange irony of being a gamer who has finally got almost all he wants and all he needs...   :(

Gracias,

Glenn

The new Modelzone shop replacing Holborn branch is in New Oxford Street - about a five min walk East of the old one - much smaller.

Went in there last Weds - not a lot left !

Interestingly their starting prices were much higher than my local Kingston branch - the dicountsd highlighted this fact.

Sad to see these guys go..

Just went to the Hoborn alternative location branch.... Got Revell aqua colour paints, mostly WW2 colours, still 3or4 deep left. Revell plastic glue bottle or drip tube at 1.12£ each, but Vallejo completely out of everything except off white yellows.

2 model kits left, last of the snap fit star wars stuff left after me...

Scenics at 20% off

Nothing off Hornby or Scalextric

Life size Darth Vader bust at £900
Various painted SW bits from £40
54mm ish painted figures from£18 each... Not much happening

Staff still quite chipper, selling off petrol remote control cars mostly while I was there

Shaun

£30 of paint added to the rainbow lake
