Re: Me, myself and I in the Dark Continent - Update June 2015 - Wangwana
« Reply #135 on: June 27, 2015, 06:10:28 AM »
Hello,

for a long time this project was on hold. A few days ago I managed to paint up some more Wangwana

And really lovely they are too  :-* :-* :-*

Rather than fix them on multi bases I tried something new.

I had much the same problem with deciding about how to base my NWF and Indian Mutiny collection. At present all my Artizan NWF stuff is based on 25mm circles as it's going to be used for skirmish gaming. The regimental basing will come when the Perry's release their plastic box set and yes this is going to leave me with at least four NWF armies!!  8) 8) 8) 8)

My Indian Mutiny stuff will have he to be based on 18mm washers and fitted into sabot bases. I just don't have the heart (or the strength!) to go through it all again!  lol

Darrell.

Lovely looking figures, as usual.  :D

Nice solution with the bases too. I've started to do a very similar thing with my medieval figures.

You should have seen the kerfuffle on the Oldhammer forum at the mention of cutting their base tabs off in order to fix them to washers... ;)

Just as well I haven't put any of my JD stuff up there on their resin bases...  ;)

Nice addition, glad to see more!

Basing is a perpetual headache for me, my collection is very inconsistent.
a mixture of quick parts, sarcastic humour, reserve, and caprice.

Many thanks to all for the nice comments.

It seems that basing miniatures is a wargamers philosophy on it's own 😄

It is great to see that this project is followed with interest. I hope that I can show some more painted Darkest Africa soon. There is still lot of work to do for the Arab army.

Thank you
Alex

Aaah the great debate, i've gone through a personal transformation of sorts, having ''grown up'' on slotta bases I never cared so much for miniatures that didn't have them.

Then I got out of GW and into various other ranges, nowadays I like my basing to be consistent so I can reuse miniatures for multiple systems and I find slotta bases to be off putting as they end up towering over the rest.

''You should have seen the kerfuffle on the Oldhammer forum at the mention of cutting their base tabs off in order to fix them to washers...''

Oldhammer is the exception though, cutting off the bases of old miniatures...sickening twisted stuff.

As for the stuff on display, it's quite inspiring I hope to have my colonial stuff similarly based so I can use it for battles and skirmish...if only I could find a decent sand/texture, the stuff I use makes my miniatures look like they're fighting in a quarry!

Thanks for your comment Lord Raglan.

I was surprised to find my own topic on the first page again after so many month'.
Yes, it is a great project that deserves more attention again.
Real life keeps me away from nearly all my hobby projects for around two years now. Right now we are moving house  o_o. It alone took four full weekends to move my hobby room (time for a sale thread in the bazaar).
I hope that I can gt back to my favorite projects by beginning of the next year.

Cheers
Alexander

Hello again,

it´s been more than five years since I have updated this topic. That´s a long long time. Though I think it is worth to keep this going again.
I have been working on this project during these five years though not very much to be honest. But 2021 sound like a good year to go back to my African adventures.

I have a new way in basing my miniatures and a new unit of Congo Arabs as wll. And there is plenty of stuff on my workbench.

Please have a look on my blog to see more pictures http://moebiusminiaturemania.blogspot.com/

Many thanks and keep safe.

Alex

Love em nicely painted. I've just finished up an Arab army, for Africa, a couple of weeks ago myself.
