(Army Painters) British Askari
« on: July 16, 2013, 05:53:36 PM »
I decided to throw my hat into the ring. After much thought I decided to go with a force of Foundry Darkest Africa British Askari. Not very flashy but I've been sitting on this group of figures for about ten years, and if they don't get painted I might as well sell them.

Four ten-man askari units (I'll probably go with Nyasaland Atonga, black fezzes)
Unit of Sikhs
Machine gun team
A couple of leader types.

I'd like to knock out a watchtower and if I get uppity I'll probably tackle a unit of Perry Sudanese and the remaining bazingers I have laying about.

I have painted these a few years ago: They are lovely to paint. I love Mark Copplestone's sculpting. I hope you enjoy them too.

I too have some Darkest Africa figures and have been inspired by some of the recent posts on the Colonial board.  I will be following this thread closely.  It might just tip the balance in their favour over the Zulu War figures which are also vying for attention.

Lovely choise, Matt!
And knowing you, we'd expect a full blown village that you happened to build quickly while waiting for the stuff to dry ;)

The station house and barracks have been done for years  :-I
I'll include some pics. I tend to make terrain first, then paint the figures. I have some nearly done Quar buildings, but no painted Quar.

I'm trying to research what sort of stockade the camp would have. So far it hasn't been mentioned in the sources I have. The walls I made a while back don't have a very large perimeter and if I make a new set I want them to look good.

I'm currently working out a good solution for WIP shots, I was hoping to do a tutorial on the basic troops.
