Thanks for the kind words my fellows, much appreciated. Now, for the final 'Army Painter' installment.
First up is a second unit of Sikhs. These figures are from the Foundry NWF range, with two added Darkest Africa figures to fill out the unit. I sculpted some backpacks for the two DA figures so they would match, it should be an easy way to differentiate the two Sikh units if I need to.
I also painted a 2.5 RML screw gun with crew. I planned to do a packed gun carried by porters as well but I'm not quite settled on how I might want to do that, or if it's worth the time.
I couldn't resist doing one Sikh in the speculative black turban, he'll be keeping the Tonga askaris in line. He's a simple conversion that involved rotating the position of the head and changing the gesturing arm.
This unsavory fellow showed up as well, saying something about Paul E. Nicholas owing him some money...
And, drum roll...
The entirety of the British Nyasaland force.
I'm pretty happy to have participated in the 'Army Painter' challenge. It prodded me into doing a force that I've been sitting on for a decade, and so much khaki...
The project morphed a little bit about halfway through when I decided to focus on Nyasaland rather than East Africa in general. The initial plan included a machine gun which I switched out for a cannon, and I added a unit of Sikhs. I started with two squads painted, with a few officers. The grand total of new figures:
26 Sikhs
23 Askari
2 British officers
3 gun crew with gun
Plnykes and Mr. Fez
16 assorted rapscallions and ne'er-do-wells
Outhouse
Cookhouse
3 ovens
barrels
So, 73 models plus a couple terrain items. Not bad! Had it not been for the 'LAF Army Painters' I can say with 100% certainty that these would be sitting unpainted in their box and I'd likely not have done much else with any other figures either
My 'failure' was that I didn't get a watchtower made, and I wanted to do some of the auxiliary tribals like the Ngoni and Nkonde, but I knew that probably wasn't realistic. I also have a pack of tribal goods that I didn't get to. I'll likely be adding to this thread as time goes on because there are a few things to do to 'complete' the forces available to the British fighting the slavers in the late 1800s.
Thanks for watching
