Some 28mm eBob castings, representing Sir William Wallace, Sir Edward Bruce (Robert's wee brother), Sir James Douglas ("The Guid" or "The Black" depending on your viewpoint) and Sir Angus Og MacDonald.

It was the Devil's own work trying to get these to photograph cleanly for some reason. I'll have to make further efforts to photograph the individual figure, particularly Sir Edward, as I'm quite proud of him.

Of interest, Sir Angus is a yet-to-be-released eBob Gallowglas with a bit of tweeking. I must apologise to eBob if he's reading this, as the website I was doing the review for went down before I could finish the figure  :? However, in lieu of that, the figure is brilliant...go buy things from eBob, he's a nice chap!

Also, I'm particuarly grateful to eBob for producing a "proper" William Wallace (though I've not really done him justice...) ; he wasn't the peasant Che MacGuevara so beloved of Hollywood and some Scottish authors of a particular bent... As a member (albeit a rather lowly one) of the gentry, any person suggesting to Wallace's face that he was a commoner would be sure to be shown the error of their ways with some force. As such, he's armed and equipped here in the conventional manner as befitting his station. The double handed sword he's armed with isn't quite as anachronistic as some would make out either. While perhaps a little on the large side for the period, double-handed or great swords weren't completely unknown during this time, as plate armour was starting to make an appearance; uncommn, yes, but not unknown...

Anyway, on with the toys!

Hopefully be able to update this soon with some better photos!

Cheers
Iain.

I love that axeman - I think I'll be off to eBob's site to take a closer look.

Cheers for the comments, guys!

Odo, the axe-weilding Gallowglas has not yet made it on to eBob's site. I think he got sidetracked doing Normans...!

Great stuff. Is there a proper Sir Robert in the pipeline too?

There is indeed, although unfortunately his sword has broken off at the hilt, and is proving rather diffictult to repair (seems to be an issue with the casting)!

Also in the "To Do" pile are The High Steward Sir Walter Stewart, The High Constable Sir Gilbert Hay, The Earl Marischal Sir Robert Keith and an additional mounted version of both Wallace and Bruce.

Cheers

Lovely stuff do like the ebob range but they are a little bit wee when mixed with other ranges which is a pity

Cheers Paleskin, yeah, luckily he supplies pretty much all you need for a Scottish army, so you don't have to worry too much about mixing 'em with other manufacturers' stuff..!

Cheers

Cool work!  :-*

For better pics, have you tried using a dark background. I found I had the same problem with all my darker miniatures!

Cheers, Andy! I suspect you might be onto something with the darker backgrounds; I'm going to experiment with grey sugar paper and mid blue card, and see what kind of results I get.

Cheers for the pro-tip!

Iain.

As promised, finally got round to taking some better pics on a better background. Hopefully the smaller image size should help a bit aswell...

Sir William Wallace, Guardian of Scotland

Sir Edward Bruce, Earl of Carrick

Sir James Douglas "The Guid"/ "The Black"

Sir Angus Og MacDonald of Islay

Hopefully these are a bit clearer than the last lot!

Cheers
Iain

Much better pics! Nice work that man! How did you fix it? More light or better camera?
