Pt.2,having quickly checking my library,ok,"Die Deutschen Schutztruppe" by Werner haupt. In 1914 Kamerun had 3800 model 98 mausers,3000 model 71's single shot, tubular magazine and88's.60machine guns, holy smokes, east afrika had onlt 55,8 guns 4xold 9cm field  guns,1x6cm mtn gun,and 3x 3,7cm  hotchkiss.I suspect some of the MG's were 3,7 cm pom-poms,also the 4x 9cm's were inthe capital of Duala. The germans had 12 companys  1460 germans and 6550 askaris. The Brits had400 Brits 8000 west african troops,12 guns and 36 MG's. The French had26 companies,1x sqd., spahi's,2 camel sqdn's,1x Mg  company1x battery of 8cm guns ,600 french officers and nco's,8344 african troops, moroccan, algerian ,senegalese, gabon and chad. that was just at the beginning, they reinforced heavily. In 1915 they quadrupled the guns of all sizes, men and even a armoured car.German southwest afrika only had 24 Mg's,but lots of guns.Mora in the north was a mtn fort ,held by Raben ,held out a long time ,but kamerun was fighting on all sides ,blockaded by the sea ,and even the Belgians jumped in to pick at  the pieces. i really like this colony,I have been converting old Falcon 25mm,DSWA askaris, that they did not possess and the mtd figures by shaving down the fez ,works perfect,by the time I', done someone will make a figure and I'll cry... oh well enjoy!

Cheers, the info you have provided is excellent, the German colonies have really captured my imagination.  I will be converting more troops (for starters using perry plastic confederates) and will post a few pics when they are painted up.

Tiger miniatures do a nice range of German colony troops

Askari Miniatures has established the beginnings of a line of DSWA troops,Beautiful, artillery crews Mtn. and Field, and Dismounted  Schutztruppe. They are a hair shorter than"Tiger" figures, but once on the table no one cares, and the 'Tiger"miniatures are nice also.

I would check out this website    www.germancolonialuniforms.co.uk   This website is committed to the german colonies and the owner Chris Dale is commited to the genre. There are many links on his website which lead to a endless amount of info.

Also other scources, the new Osprey book on the german colonies ,covers Oceania, and AFRika, and China. Also the osprey book Armies of East afrika, shows the east afrikan police askari. In Afrika the uniforms for native askaris were the same ,with the exception like in east afriaka of a white oval patch with a red P in the center on the left sleeve. In DSWA  the Landpolizei had green facings, bandoliers for ammo and different insignia, but all the polizei truppen were trained the same, some armed with the older rifles (east afrika ,oceania, kamerun ,and togo) Also Togo like Oceania islands only had Poizei truppen. The 3rd Seebattalion in Tsingtao, besides the Gendarmes from the battalion had a  Versuchs(experimental) company of chinese w/a Mtd detachment, mainly for local enforcement of the city and as translators on the frontier.
