Warmachine Cryx Kraken (in War of the Worlds style)
« on: July 29, 2013, 08:01:15 PM »
Pendrake: Quickly, one after the other, four of the Kraken appeared.
Monstrous tripods, higher than the tallest steeple, striding over the pine trees and
smashing them. Walking engines of glittering metal. Each carried a huge funnel and I
realized with horror that I'd seen this awful thing before. A fifth Machine
appeared on the far bank. It raised itself to full height, flourished the
funnel high in the air - and the ghostly, terrible Heat Ray struck the town.
Journalist : As it struck, all five Kraken exulted, emitting deafening howls
which roared like thunder.

Kraken: Ulla! Ulla!

Pendrake: The six Trencher Cannons we had seen now fired simultaneously, decapitating
a Kraken. The Cortex inside the hood was slain, splashed to the four
winds, and the body, nothing now but an intricate device of metal, went whirling
to destruction. As the other Monsters advanced, people ran away blindly, the
artillerymen among them, but I jumped into the water and hid until forced up to
breathe. Now the guns spoke again, but this time the Heat Ray sent them to oblivion.

Kraken: Ulla!

Penndrake: With a white flash, the Heat Ray swept across the river. Scalded, half-
blinded and agonized, I staggered through leaping, hissing water towards the shore. I
fell helplessly, in full sight of the Cryxians, expecting nothing but death. The foot of
a Kraken came down close to my head, then lifted again, as the four Cryxians
carried away the debris of their fallen comrade... and I realized that by a miracle ,
I had escaped.

Kraken: Ulla! Ulla! Ulla!

(inspired by Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds)

YES! It is finally finished. About a year ago I thought of the idea of taking the Warmachine Cryx Kraken (link for the original model). I ordered the Kraken and also a Doc Oc action figure with bendy arms. I demolished the action figure and salvaged the bendy legs to use as tripod legs for the Martian look. To reinforce the legs, I used thick steel wire (about 0.3cm). I then placed the main gun in the head's spot and placed the small gun on top. This left it faceless, which suits the theme better IMO. And it also looks better this way, instead of that silly unicorn look.
It then took me a while to get it finished with painting. Took me many, many hours, but I enjoyed it a lot. Learned a lot about this type of basing, weathering, applying seaweed, doing OSL with an airbrush and mainly: getting a big model done!

Not a site to buy from anyway, it's a news and info site. Here you go:
http://www.waylandgames.co.uk/privateer-press/warmachine/cryx/cryx-colossal-kraken/prod_16806.html

Not saying you should buy from there of course, but it's an easy place to point.
