Some painted Deep Ones (RAFM)
« on: August 06, 2013, 08:55:00 PM »
I just finished painting up 12 of the old RAFM Deep Ones. I plan to try out a bit of USX gaming with them.

I did end up writing a rather long post on my blog about how I got into Lovecraft, Cthulhu Mythos and such, but I think I will spare you all that here and let you visit my blog if you want the long story.

Thanks guys :)

I have chosen a pretty easy paint scheme. My approach to painting is mostly to find a balance were the quality of the paintjob is good enough for me to be happy with it and fast enough so I don't get too bored and stagnate in the process.

When I get to play some games with them I will try and post up some reports.

That's a great philosophy and I guess it's pretty much what I aim for too (although I've never put it quite so succinctly).

Nice brushwork too.  ;)

Thanks.

I actually just dug out the RAFM Great Cthulhu! I think I will give it a go one of these days...

It looks to be a terrible nightmare to assamble, but considering the age and classic awesomeness I think I am still in love with it  ;)

I totally agree with your painting ethos as well - stagnation is to be avoided at all costs.

I like the green on your Deep Ones - did you mix it yourself or is it a standard colour?

It was quite easy actually. I used P3 Gnarls Green and gave it a heavy highlight with p3 Wyrm Green. It looked quite toxic and had a huge contrast. Then I washed it all with the OOP green GW wash, I guess another brand or their new version would be fine too. Just to blend the colours and tone down the toxic Wyrm Green.

After that I painted eyes, swords, teeth etc and corrected errors.
