Mr. Geboom,

(Such astonishing craftsman deserves the respect.  Gerald, is it?)

Having been the one to support keeping your posts on the first page, let me also say that we will follow your work if you have to put it on a later page - or perhaps start a new thread to match up with this one (I think okay to keep this one, though).

Having witness what you have created and the incredible speed at which you are working at such a high level, may I ask what your real day job is?  I suspect something to do with building or other precision work or maybe something stressful enough to require this intense level to detail.

On the bar, while what you created is very nice, I don't know how many curved bars like that there would have been in the old west.  I believe much more likely to be long and straight, when the bar isn't just some boards on top of some barrels.

Some where out there lurks some dastardly bastard with enough money, once you are finished with this project, to convince you to sell this masterwork off.  Don't do it!  Keep adding to it until we all agree it is finished.  And then have lots of fun playing with it.  You deserve.

Keep up the great work.  And then build one in 15 mm and send it off as a nice present to me!   lol

Simply insane....almost...too big to play in!  lol  My only qualm, and it's more of a simple personal fear is that in the hussle/bussle of moving/gaming, that the supports for the balconies/railings will be snagged or hit, and thus break.  They just look far too likely to be broken off!  Scares me.  (then again I never trust people when gaming, lol).

 lol

I can't wait to see all of this stuff assembled on one table (if you have a table large enough!)

Geboom, your buildings just get more and more amazing. The sheer scale of the CAsino is jaw-dropping but its that atention to detail that really impresses me, the loading ramp, the tarpaper roof panels, the bannisters. I really can't stress how gobsmacked I am by this project. So looking forward to seeing the painted final versions of what you have so far!

Fifteensaway,

I hope to do a final update in this topic as usual but it seems you kan only have 20.000 caracters in one message. ( never thought I would make such a long topic )

Having a full time job as a HR consultant this means that I can only do hobby in the evenings and weekends. In this case it's a plus that I rarely watch TV. I do have some trained skills at design, sketching and woodworks since I went to a carpenter school somewhere in the previous millenium.
It must sound logic that you end up being a HR advisor when you start carpenter school.

The bar is indeed way to playfull. Best go for a straight forward version. Will be added asap.

It could well be so that someone will report in and offers me money for my buildings. This happened with Boomville 1.0 and several other projects I made. No worries, I wnat to play and even post reports.but as with all projects, there might be a moment whe I do sell Boomville 2.0.

If you come over we build a building together and you can take it with you!

Elbows;
Youare absolutely right. I am verry watchfull when people play with my buildings. Most people are aware of the time and effort that went into these projects but some are not that carefull while playing. There might be some damage over time but nothing I can't repair.

Now for painting the building; well Cholly I hope to do a little testing this weekend with a product that seems not suiteble for painting. Never the less I want to test it out and if that works (I give it a fair chance ) then The revolution in painting wooden structures starts here!

Keep you all posted.

Cheers,

Geboom ( Gerard, Gerald, Gerhard, Ge , Geep )

It just keeps getting better and better. You could play an entire game just in the casino. The bar is very unusual and has been pointed out would more than likely be straight maybe with one curved corner. For those that are interested there are a couple of interesting books on saloons of the old west. "Saloons of the Old West" by Richard Erdoes is more of a general history but it has some fascinating information in it along with a lot of woodcuts and a few pictures. The other is "The Great American Bars and Saloons" by Kathy Weiser. This one is filled with photographs and there are enough exterior shots to make it quite useful for modeling other buildings as well.

Just a question: where do you find your styrodur? apparently i'ts quite hard to find here.
Well, i assume that styrodur is similar to insulating foam (the higher density), and it's not FOREX, right?

awww, those names are a real mess! >__<

You can get it here:
http://www.sceneryworkshop.nl/ruwe-materialen/styrodur-polystyreen/

I think the guy sells it after a workshop from mr. Boom ;)

I think Mr. Geboom may have perished...or he finally built a large enough structure out of balsa wood that he decided to live in it, and has yet to install internet.

 lol lol

It would be a maxiture then wouldn't it? So you think he made something at least 3 times bigger than the casino?

Hello,

this is the most amazing Balsa Stuff i've ever seen.   :o  :-*
Congratulations!

I would love to reproduce these ones, but my problem is, that my gaming table don't look like the typical desert/sandy Area, but more like in the movie "Legends of the Fall".
You can see what i mean on this picture from the movie:
http://www.zastavki.com/pictures/1366x768/2008/Movies_Films_L_Legends_of_the_Fall_010189_.jpg

Does anyone know how the buildings (1860 - 1900) looked like in a more nothern area (montana etc.) of the wild west?
Was it the same style like the geboom buildings or not?

Please help me to find sources.

Best regards,
Jan

Geboom's buildings have a lot of architectural leeway taken with them.  But remember, in that time frame there were no building codes.  You can get away with a lot of stuff, ranging from old log cabins from the late 1700's - up to brickwork buildings like the early 1900's.  Don't fret about it.

I will say Geboom's buildings are more town/city than ranch of course.

Hi,

thanks again. Log cabin was a very good catchword for my google research.
I think for the beginning 2-3 Ranch houses / log cabins will be sufficiently for my table. I don't have the storage room for a whole city.
Bad for me, that for climbing and playing on the top of buildings the City-Shapes like (these from geboom) are much better. :)

Ah, one member built up a ranch. What a pity that some images are missing:

I think they best thing about these(or the best of the best because they are great) is that they see to be more of what a real building would be, size wise.  Love these :)
