15mm Flodden Scots
« on: August 13, 2013, 05:55:05 PM »
Since this year is the 500th Anniversary of the Battle of Flodden Field, I thought I'd dig out my old 15mm Essex Flodden Scots and try and get some more done...

These were among my first ever efforts at 15mm, done about 2005/2006 (pre-dated only by my FoW efforts, but those were mainly tanks..!) Unfortunately, I was going through my "Gloss Varnish is the future, I've seen it!" phase, so apologies for the shiny photos! It just means that the figures are practically bombproof when it comes to unexpected flights off the table, and look great from 3 feet away, but up close they're not so good...

Every time I go to try and progress the army, and open the boxfile they live in, I see all those dozens of unpainted pike blocks and my heart just sinks (especially since I only started the army as an excuse to paint cannon!). The closest I've come recently to actually doing anything with them was doing some banners for them on the computer!

Anyhoooo...on with the photos.

The story so far-

Left to right; Clan Robertson, King James IV, Earl of Atholl's Regiment

King James IV

The Earl of Atholl's Regiment (Pikemen)

(I suspect I've got the quarters of the flag the wrong way round..)

Clan Robertson (Highlanders)

there's no documentary evidence to suggest that the robertsons were at Flodden (and I strongly suspect they weren't), but a bit of Clan loyalty can be forgiven can't it...?

Currently working on the Town Levy of Perth (more pike) and Lord Maxwell's Border Reivers (cavalry/ light horse), and haven't even strarted the Earls of Bothwell and Eglinton's regiments (even more pike!), although they do have some nice flags waiting for them...

Cheers
Iain.

Iain, as a huge fan of the period and the campaign and battle in particular, I hope you can complete the project (Scots at least). Look forward to seeing the future additions, shiny or no. Cheers.

Thanks guys! Progress is slow at the moment, up to my eyes in redcoats and BAOR!

Cheers
Iain.
