Wounded Wulf game
« on: May 12, 2008, 05:20:22 AM »
It seems a giant ape has pulled a plane out of the sky, one filled with unobtainium, a metal required to power airships. Cultists (played by me) are attempting to end the world by sacrificing a few maidens (although any Westerner will do) and a crate of unobtainium to a summoned creature. Aviators (played by Brian Burger, wirelizard on these forums) attempt to recover the unobtainium. Professor Crun is looking for butterflies and the mercenary are mercenary.

An overview of the table:

Cultists started in the big mountain in the top right, aviators in the cleared area just to the left, Crun in the bottom left off camera and the mercenaries in the village in the foreground by the river steamer Glorie.

The cultists need to go to three different altars with the crates of unobtainium. They were hot off the mark to the first one, summoning King Kong who delightfully ate the maiden then proceeded to cause havok:

The mercenaries ran into the neanderthals, whose Princess Leila had been captured by the cannibals for a quick snack. Said cannibals were quickly spotted and taken out by the aviators, on their way to the crashed aircraft:

While Professor Crun hunted butterflies and came across the crashed aircraft:

The cultists, after realizing the King Kong needs more of a snack than a maiden, run back through their mountain lair and head towards their second altar:

After rescuing Leila from the cannibals, who promptly falls in love with the aviators 2nd officer, who promptly runs from Tu-Rok, brave neanderthal hero to whom Leila has been promised:

The game was then split by the river. Cultists and mercenaries on one side, aviators, on their way to the crashed aircraft, and Professor Crun. The latter take on a few cannibals:

while the cultists, denied the world ending by a lucky shot to the T-Rex's head by a big game rifle, take on Tu-Rok:

The game ended their, with Professor Crun being the victor with 8 victory points, having potted both the T-Rex and a carnivorous ape. Both killed with head shots with big game rifles, which deal two wounds. Rules used were .45A with a bunch of supplements.

Was tonnes of fun. Pictures can be found on my and wirelizard's Flickr photostreams:

Pretty much all the 45 Adventure supplements, by the time we were done, actually. With a game this big and over the top, not a surprise!

You missed the one late-game picture that was shot just before the T Rex collected a custom hunting rifle bullet in the back of the skull:

The ill-fated dino is lower right, the hunter that took him down is offscreen to the right.

It was a great game, well GM“d by a friend with lots of experience.

That rope bridge is really cool!  I'll bet that gets fought over a bit!  Has anyone
plunged to their death off of it during a game? lol

I shot three cannibals off it with my airmen this game - one was dead from a headshot when he went over, the other two took leg wounds and failed Dodge rolls to stay on the bridge!

We ruled that it was instant death to fall from the bridge; the water was full of rocks and the dry parts had even more rocks...

A great looking game with many of the elements of a good pulp story: cultists, heroic fighters, a giant ape, and cannibals.

I like the names on the front of the bases. Good idea.

I can only echo the other sentiments; and unobtainum is very rare, although its gaseous cousin handwavium is easier found and often in large quanteties in the general area of most of Hollywood and the Sci-Fi Channels production facilities ;)

How long did the game actually take?

Handwavium, I like that. The game took close to 4 hours, including setup. We probably could have kept playing, but it was clear Prof Crun and his comrades the big game hunters had won, given all the things they had bagged.
