The best rules I have paid for this period are the Frei Korps Horse and Musket rules originally produced by Guernsey Foundry, excellent set of rules that work superbly for very small skirmishes, individuals are card activated, and the mechanics means that you can never be sure who has a loaded musket. should still be available from Tim Peterson at gisby@mts.net, if not I have a set I can photocopy and send.

I would suggest taking a look at Brink of Battle.  It represents small man-to-man skirmishes from all periods, but is especially fun for Pike & Shot and FIW, as we have smoke rules for black powder weapons that are unlike anything else out there.

We don't have a FIW fluff book out, but that will come probably next year.  Everything you need to play is in the main rulebook.

Here's some TYW stuff we did over the weekend at Game Kastle in Santa Clara California.

Kadzik,
If you or one of your friends has the Legends of the Old West rulebooks this might help. Wargames Journal (an online magazine now sadly defunct) had some adaptation rules for FIW (Rangers, Coureures de Bois, and Indian Warparty). I'm not sure if this is still available on the web but I have the pdf and am happy to email it to you or any one else who wants it. Just send me a pm with your contact details.

Thank you Faust. I will check this.

Cholly; I don't like LotOW mechanic so much. I'm great Mordheim fan, but I play it more for sentiment and my beloved buddies, than anything else.

I'd love something with alternative activation, initiative, more realistic range fighting.

I'd love something with alternative activation, initiative, more realistic range fighting.

You'll get all that plus a Campaign system where your models can gain Experience and get Injuries akin to Mordheim, with a more grisly cup of realism thrown in.  lol
