Great looking figures, and nice tutorial. Rather spooky this should be posted today when my copy of 'D-day Paratroopers Volume2, The British, Canadians and French' arrived this morning from the Book Depository. Quite obviously the planets are in alignment, telling to get a move on so I can start to paint my own British Paras!!

I use this book - http://www.amazon.co.uk/King-Country-Airborne-Uniforms-Equipment/dp/0764307940/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1378246152&sr=1-1&keywords=ww2+british+airborne+uniforms - for most of my uniforms.

I don't usually open the wallet, other than to give the moths some oxygen, but I got a good deal on a copy (£25) and have never looked back. It's just a superb sourcebook, not just for the uniforms, but the units, the badges, the kit, the weapons ... everything you can think of really.

The castings do occasionally show their age, but the quality of the sculpts, the character in the faces, the great proportions and the subtle movement (without being crazily over-dramatic) ... these babies turned me into a Paul Hicks groupie.

Good to see this tutorial again. I have had it bookmarked for a few months now, found it on some forum when looking for guidelines to paint denison smocks. As all have said beautiful painting.

Thanks guys. I'm actually considering replacing all the jump wings with the new(ish) transfers that have come out. I'm all for cheating if it gives a better finish!

It's just a 6-stage (although I rarely use the very darkest shade) I mixed up myself, using GW and Vallejo paints. I'm afraid I don't have a formula, I just do it by eye and put a swatch on the front of the pot so I can mix up more when the level gets low.
