Warmaster in 28mm?
« on: September 05, 2013, 02:01:21 AM »
Has anyone tried adapting the Warmaster rules to 28mm miniatures?  The Mantic horde options have me thinking that it might be possible.  I was thinking something easy like 60X40 bases for infantry and 60X50 for cavalry.  Movement and such might need to be tweaked.

In my slightly humble opinion, Hail Caesar is a better starting point for that.
You, sir, are not allowed to attempt a takeover of the solar system until your octopus sobers up.

I am not familiar with the Hail Caesar rules.  Why do they make a better starting point?  I am looking for a good mass battle game.

I think Warmaster in 28mm is a great idea and something I've given thought to but have yet to execute. It's one of about 5 GW games I will deign to play and I think it would work great in 28mm. Cut out some 100mm x 50mm movement trays and put however many guys / tray and you're set. Depending on how big your armies are you could do 4 or 5/ tray or up to 8-10, giving units of up 24 25mm figures or 30 20mm figures, or between 6 and 12 cav. Convert inches to cm if your table size allows, but probably not necessary.

Yeah, Rick Priestly has:

It's basically Warmaster (Ancients) 2.0, usable with any scale but primarily 28mm. ;) Might be easier to plug Warmaster's magic system into that - it's already pretty free 'n' easy, and open to tweaks.

I'm a big HC fan and can attest to it being a very good and robust set of rules. I use it only for historical but I believe that there is a very active fantasy community for it along with a Yahoo! group.

Played WMA ancients in 28mm, if I remember rightly we simply scales cm to inches

Warmaster has been done in 28mm since it was first released and has been demoed at various conventions over the years. It is both visually stunning (as only massed ranks of big figures can be) and a great game to play (because it's Warmaster).

http://warmasterresources.webs.com/warmaster28mm.htm    for example.

The huge picture of the Troll base on that site is amazing!

Have you tried KoW?  Some find it to be to streamlined, but I really like it.
