Suggestions for Prussian Automata?
« on: September 10, 2013, 11:15:44 PM »
I'm thinking of adding some 'heavies' to my small Germanic VSF forces, and was wondering if anyone knows of any suitably Prussian (or Austrian, or any other Germanic-themed) automata - especially clockwork ones, as my German force isn't very 'high-tech' (they're actually Ruritanians, and therefore a bit more rural and chocolate-boxy and maybe a little more old-fashioned than some other German states).

Or, shall I just get some MageKnight Golems and add pickelhaube?

And for something really silly, there are Eureka's HARTLIEBE KRIEGSHOSEN;

and their Hartlebepanzerhochrad (Hardlove's Armoured Pennyfaring) (which appears to be windup)

 and their     Aufziehpickelhaubenstahlsphpanzerfahrzeug Aufs A (which may be the silliest of all; a giant, windup, wheeled  pickelhaube)

Thanks chaps, there's some great suggestions there; I'd forgotten that the Ironclad steam automata came with different weapons, and the Hinterland ones look good too (of course). Bicycle Daleks, the Wrong Trousers and Pickelhaube tanks might be going a little far however!

Stuff to chew over, certainly, thanks.

EDIT: it seems I can't spell 'suggestions'.

Heh, my Russian Automata force should meet your Prussians.

I've been using a lot of Bob Charette's robots, both his Paroom and Secret Science lines. They have a wonderfully clunky feel.

For something impressive, you could add one or two of this guy from Dystopian Wars:

I could imagine some of the Dystopian Wars thingies like these or for something fairly big these could work. Looking at this pic, the latter probably would be a bit too big,
There's also the Dystopian Legions Teutonic knights.

The Hinterland robot has a separate head which might allow you some customization. I backed the Meridian Miniatures Kickstarter which has a ton of cool head options including some Prussian ones, I'm looking forward to trying them on the automata I have waiting. The heads should be available pretty soon i imagine.

Hm, I wonder if these heads will fit the Hinterland robot?

Wow, even more possibilities!

I had been looking at some of those Dystopian Wars/Legions things - the Schildtrager robots had caught my eye as possibilities. The Teutonic Knights look cool too. But maybe a bit close to Space Marines?

That Clockwork Soldier from Brigade has possibilities too. Decisions decisions!
